After a heart-breaking loss last night, the  New York Mets (27-28) will look to split a four-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers (37-19). Jason Vargas (1-2 5.22 ERA) takes the hill for the Mets and will be going up against Hyun-Jin Ryu (7-1 1.65 ERA) of the Dodgers.

Vargas has had an interesting season. He has yet to pitch more than 5 ⅓ innings this season, but four of his seven starts this season he has only allowed one earned run. After a rough beginning to his season that saw his ERA reach 14.21, Vargas has since rebounded and lowered it to 5.22. Vargas doesn’t make it very deep into games, something that is not good for a Mets team with a shaky bullpen. Vargas has only pitched 29 ⅓ innings this season and has a WHIP of 1.57. He has 23 strikeouts this season and 15 walks.

Ryu has been the best pitcher in baseball so far this season. Ryu owns baseballs best ERA among qualified pitchers this season. His 0.83 WHIP is third-best in the Majors. Ryu has made 10 starts so far this season and has yet to allow more than two earned runs in a single game. Perhaps his most impressive stat, Ryu has 62 strikeouts and only four walks in 65 ⅓ innings this season.

The Dodgers are baseballs most complete team. They lead the league in a number of categories and the ones they don’t lead, they are in the top five. The Mets gave up four runs in the ninth last night to lose the game. With Edwin Diaz, the Met’s best closer who blew last nights save, pitching four times in the last five days, he is most likely unavailable tonight. Vargas is a soft throwing pitcher that the Dodgers will eat up tonight. The Mets bullpen isn’t going to do much better. The Dodgers should take this game with ease and get the OVER on their own.
