New York Mets at Washington Nationals – 08/04/20 – MLB Odds, Preview & Prediction

A National League East battle gets started on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, when the New York Mets (4-7) visit the Washington Nationals (3-4). These two teams will play each other 10 times between now and September 27th. This game will air live on ESPN at 7:00 p.m. EST.

New York just completed a four-game series at the Atlanta Braves and suffered a 3-1 series defeat. Atlanta won the first game 11-10 thanks to putting up five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Braves then jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the second game and cruised to a 7-1 win. Sunday was a straightforward 4-0 win for Atlanta as New York dealt with all their Yoenis Cespedes drama. New York was able to avoid the four-game sweep with a 7-2 win on Monday.

The Washington Nationals were set to face the Miami Marlins over the weekend, but due to the coronavirus outbreak in the Marlins clubhouse the series was postponed. Washington last played on July 30th when they finished off a 2-2 series split with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Nationals lost the first two games, as the home team, 4-1 and 5-1, but won the final two games, when they were technically the away team, 4-0 and 6-4 to get the series split. Juan Soto is set for his first action of the season after testing positive for coronavirus just before the opening game of the season started.

Below is my pick for the Major League Baseball showdown between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals. All odds are from DraftKings Sportsbook.

New York Mets (+135) at Washington Nationals (-159)

Pitching Matchup: Steven Matz (0-1, 3.18 ERA, 10K) vs Patrick Corbin (0-0, 1.42 ERA, 8K)

Steven Matz is set to make his third start of 2020 and will look to continue his solid start. Matz may not have a win yet, but the 29-year-old has allowed just four earned runs and 10 hits in his 11.1 innings pitched. The lefty allowed one run and two hits in his season opener, but received a no-decision, and then gave up three earned runs and eight hits in a 5.1 inning loss to Boston last time out.

Patrick Corbin got the nod in the Nationals third game of the season and he pitched brilliantly but could only muster a no-decision. Corbin pitched 6.1 innings and held the high-flying Yankees offense to just two hits and one earned run. The Yankees went on to win the game 3-2.

History: The Washington Nationals holds a slight 443-432 advantage in this series, but the Mets have won the season series the last two seasons.

MLB Picks: I like the Washington Nationals to get their season restarted.

2020 Picks Record: 16-6
