MLB could have their first World Series participant Tuesday night as the Washington Nationals will look to sweep the St Louis Cardinals right to the offseason. The Nats have given up just two total runs, one earned, in three games this series and are in prime position to get to their first World Series.
The Houston Astros and the New York Yankees continue their entertaining series as one of those teams looks to gain a 2-1 series lead in this tightly contested ALCS. The Astros now turn to the red hot Gerrit Cole while the Yankees look to Luis Severino to contain the Astros bats.
Below is my pick for Game 4 of the National League Championship Series and Game 3 of the American League Championship Series. All lines are from PointsBet Sportsbook.
(Series Tied 1-1): Houston Astros (-166) @ New York Yankees (+144): O/U 7.5 runs scored (-110/-110)
A tense Game 2 Sunday night sees the American League Championship all tied up one as the series shifts from Houston to New York. The Houston Astros came away with a 3-2 win in 11 innings after a Carlos Correa walk off home run. Correa had a productive night at the plate, as he also had a RBI double, but also in the field when he gunned down DJ LeMahieu at home when the Yankees were looking to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the 6th. The Yankees fell down 1-0, thanks to that Correa double, but an Aaron Judge 2-run HR saw the Yankees take two run lead into the 5th inning. George Springer changed that in the bottom of the 5th with a 418 foot HR as the two juggernauts were on their way to play extra innings.
The Astros will now turn to Gerrit Cole who has 25 strikeouts in 15.2 playoff inning and has allowed just one earned run so far in these 2019 playoffs. The Yankees will rely on Luis Severino who pitched four scoreless innings in his lone playoff appearance, but he did allow plenty of base runners in those four innings.
Game Three Pitching Matchup: Gerrit Cole (0.57 ERA in 15.2 playoff innings) vs Luis Severino (0.00 ERA in 4.0 playoff innings)
Game Three Prediction: I am not sure how anyone can go against Gerrit Cole right now, so take the Astros at -166.
(Wash leads 3-0): Stl Cardinals (+117) at Washington Nationals (-127): O/U 7 runs scored
The Washington Nationals pitching staff has been nothing short of amazing the first three games of this NLCS and the Nats now find themselves one win away from their first Would Series appearance in franchise history. Stephen Strasburg pitched seven innings, allowed one unearned run and struck out 12 Cardinals en route to the victory. Washington used a four run third inning and never looked back Monday night.
Game Four Pitching Matchup: Dakota Hudson (1.93 ERA in 4.2 playoff innings) vs Patrick Corbin (7.56 ERA in 8.1 playoff innings)
Game Four Prediction: I can’t fathom the Cardinals actually getting swept, so I am backing the Cardinals in this one.
MLB Playoffs Record: 15-9
