Both NLDS series got very interesting after both teams down 1-0 won Friday night and tied the series at 1-1. Stephen Strasburg outdueled Clayton Kershaw to even the series up for the Nats as the series switches to Washington and Mike Foltynewicz outdueled Jack Flaherty to even the series up for the Braves as these two teams head to St. Louis.
Below are my picks for Sunday’s NLDS games. All lines are from the FanDuel Sportsbook.
(Series Tied 1-1): LA Dodgers (+106) at Washington Nationals (-122): O/U 8 runs scored (-122/+100)
The Nationals jumped on Clayton Kershaw early scoring three runs in the first two innings and never looking back. The Nats loaded the bases in the top of the 1st inning, but were only able to get one run across the plate thanks to a Howie Kendrick RBI single. Washington got two more in the 2nd thanks a RBI single by Adam Eaton and a RBI double by Anthony Rendon. The Dodgers got two back in the later innings, thanks to a Josh Tuner Sac Fly and a Max Muncy sole HR, but the Nats tacked on an insurance run in the 8th and came away with a 4-2 win.
The Dodgers were expected to roll in this series, but now Sunday is almost a must win for the NL favorites.
Game Three Pitching Matchup: Hyun-Jin Ryu (2.32 ERA in 29 starts) vs Max Scherzer (4.50 ERA in one postseason start)
Game Three Prediction: The Nats seem to have something of late. Take the Nats to win and take a 2-1 series lead.
(Series Tied 1-1): Atlanta Braves (-112) at St. Louis Cardinals (-102): O/U 8.5 runs scored (-106/-116)
The pitching matchup in Game Two was Jack Flaherty vs Mike Foltynewicz and one pitcher went out and threw seven shutout innings, but it was not the guy people thought. The Braves got a first inning run after a Josh Donaldson RBI single and that was all they needed as Foltynewicz went out and pitched a gem. The RHP, who sported a lofty 4.54 ERA during the regular season, shut the Cardinals offense down and gave up just three hits and walking none. Jack Flaherty really calmed down after the first inning, but gave up a key 2-run HR to pinch hitter Adam Duvall, in the 7th inning, to all but end this one.
People thought this series could go the distance and these two teams look ready to go five.
Game Three Pitching Matchup: Mike Soroka (2.68 ERA in 29 starts) vs Adam Wainwright (4.19 ERA is 31 starts)
Game Three Prediction: I like the Braves to get the win in this one and take a 2-1 series lead. Take the Braves to win.
MLB Playoffs Record: 6-2
