The Minnesota Twins (29-15) are looking to pick up their fifth straight win today. They will be sending out Jose Berrios (6-2 3.05 ERA) to take on Wade LeBlanc (2-0 4.50 ERA) and the Seattle Mariners (22-25). The Mariners will be looking to turn their fortunes around with a win tonight.
Berrios will be making his tenth start of the season tonight. Six of those starts Berrios went at least six innings and allowed two earned runs or less. His most recent outing, however, has been his worst of the year. On Monday, Berrios went 5 ⅔ innings and allowed five earned runs on 12 hits and three walks. He also gave up two home runs.
Tonight will only be LeBlanc’s fourth start of the year. LeBlanc has allowed eight earned runs in sixteen innings and holds a WHIP of 1.62. Longevity hasn’t been LeBlanc’s strong suit so far this season. His longest outing was six innings so the Mariners may need some extra help from the bullpen tonight. Look for the Twins to drive LeBlanc’s pitch count up early with some great plate discipline.
The Twins have been one of the most surprising teams this season. They have one of the best records in baseball and the Mariners have had one of the worst records since April 12. Berrios is the Twins top pitcher and should have another solid outing tonight. The Twins second-ranked offense shouldn’t have much trouble scoring on LeBlanc. Once the Mariners pen comes in, the Twins should widen their lead. Look for the Twins to pick up a win in semi-blowout fashion while also hitting the OVER. Berrios has a bounce-back game and the Twins continue their winning streak while the Mariners are left trying to figure out how they can turn their season around.
