Total O/U: 8.5

The Milwaukee Brewers (39-29) head out west to begin a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants (28-38). Zach Davies (7-0 2.41 ERA) takes the mound for the Brewers and will be pitching against Drew Pomeranz (1-6 7.16 ERA) of the Giants.

Davies has been having a great season and it shows with his undefeated record and low ERA. He’s not getting a ton of outs via the strikeout, only 48 in 74 ⅔ innings, but he has been effective at getting batters out other ways. In his 13 starts, Davies has only allowed more than two runs in an outing twice. Six runs back in May against the Cincinnati Reds and his last start he allowed three earned runs against the Pirates (2-run home run and a sac fly).

Pomeranz has been having a season to forget. Not only does he have one of the highest ERAs in baseball among pitcher with at least 40 innings pitched, but he has a 1.75 WHIP. Pomeranz has 22 walks in just 44 innings on the season. In his last start, he went five scoreless against the Los Angeles Dodgers, one of his best starts of the season. Prior to that start, Pomeranz allowed 25 earned runs in 14 ⅓ innings across five starts. Pomeranz is allowing a home run every four innings on average this season.

The Giants offense ranks in the bottom three of almost every category. Davies should have an easy time today getting through this lineup. Look for him to go about seven innings, maybe more, only allowing a run or two, maybe less. The Brewers have been crushing the ball and are now third in baseball in home runs. Pomeranz has been giving up a lot of long balls this season and will probably give up at least one more today. I think the Brewers bounce him from this game early and continue to run the score up on a Giants bullpen, even though they have one of the best bullpens in baseball. The OVER is a solid bet as well.
