The Milwaukee Brewers (38-29) will look to split the two-game series today with the Houston Astros (46-22). It will be a battle of aces as Brandon Woodruff (8-1 3.87 ERA) of the Brewers goes up against Justin Verlander (9-2 2.31 ERA) of the Astros.

Despite his 8-1 record, Woodruff has had some rough stretches with a month of great pitching in between. To start the season Woodruff went 26 ⅓ innings in five starts and allowed 17 earned runs. He followed up with a great month of baseball going 38 innings in six starts allowing only six earned runs. His two most recent starts have been against the 20th ranked Pittsburgh Pirates offense where he allowed 14 hits and nine earned runs in 10 innings. Woodruff has a solid WHIP (1.17) and 90 strikeouts in 74 ⅓ innings.

Verlander is having one of the best seasons in all of baseball this year. Verlander will be making his fifth start tonight and has only allowed more than three earned runs three times all year. Nine of those starts he has allowed one earned run or less. Verlander leads the Majors in WHIP (0.74) and BAA (.151). He has 110 strikeouts with only 19 walks in 93 ⅔ innings. Verlander’s only issue this year has been the home run ball, allowing 14.

This should be a good pitching matchup. Verlander has had the better year of the two and if he could limit the long ball would probably be having the best season of his career. The Astros sixth-ranked offense should be able to do more damage to Woodruff than the Brewers 10th-ranked offense does against Verlander. For a top-two team in baseball with one of the best pitchers in baseball on the mound at home, -125 provides some great odds. Expect the UNDER to hit in this low scoring game.
