Milwaukee Brewers at Pittsburgh Pirates – MLB Odds, Preview & Prediction – 08/22/20

A National League Central battle continues Saturday, August 22, 2020, when the Milwaukee Brewers (11-13) visit the Pittsburgh Pirates (5-17) in game two of their three-game series. Milwaukee currently sits in fourth place in the NL Central, 4.5 games back of the first place Chicago Cubs, while Pittsburgh sits in the basement of the Central, 9.5 games back. This game will air live on FS1 at 4:05 p.m. EST.

Game one of this series saw the Pittsburgh Pirates come away with a 7-2-win Friday night. The Pirates scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and the bottom of the eighth to secure the game one victory. Chad Kuhl earned his first win in over two years.

Below is my pick for the Major League Baseball showdown between the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates. All odds are from MGM Sportsbook.

Milwaukee Brewers (-160) at Pittsburgh Pirates (+138)

Pitching Matchup: Josh Lindblom (1-0, 6.62 ERA, 1.53 WHIP) vs Derek Holland (0-1, 7.36 ERA, 1.42 WHIP)

Josh Lindblom started 2020 strong but has since gotten shelled for nine earned runs in his last two starts. Lindblom gave up just four combined earned runs in his first two starts but gave up five runs to the Chicago Cubs last time out. The righty will look to turn things around against the offensively challenged Pittsburgh Pirates.

Derek Holland has been awful to start 2020 as he looks to rebound from a nine-run drubbing in his last start. The Pirates skipped Holland’s spot in the rotation the last few weeks as the lefty made a scoreless relief appearance on August 18th.

Batting Stats:

Christian Yelich is having a poor start to the season, by his standards, but the right fielder is still powering the Brewers offense. Yelich leads the team with seven home runs, 15 RBI’s, and a .327 on base percentage. Second baseman Keston Hiura is the team leader in batting average, at .240, and hits, with 23.

Shortstop Kevin Newman leads the Pirates with a .276 batting average, 21 hits, and a .312 on base percentage. Third baseman Colin Moran powers the team with six home runs and first baseman Josh Bell has a team high 10 RBI’s. It has not been pretty at the plate for Pittsburgh this season.
