Miami Marlins at Chicago Cubs – Game 2 Odds, Pick & Prediction

One team can punch their ticket to the National League Division Series on Friday, October 2, 2020, when the Miami Marlins visit the Chicago Cubs in game two of their three-game NL Wild Card Series. Miami won game one 5-1 and can wrap up the series Friday. This game will air live on ABC at 2:00 p.m. EST.

The Chicago Cubs were up 1-0 and cruising and then the seventh inning came along and turned game one upside down. Miami plated five runs in the top half of the seventh inning to the massive win. Corey Dickerson gave the fish the lead with a three-run home run and Jesus Aguilar added some insurance with a two-run shot later in the seventh. Sandy Alcantara was brilliant for Miami as he allowed just three hits and one run in 6.2 innings of work.

Below is my pick for the Miami Marlins at Chicago Cubs. All odds are from FanDuel Sportsbook.

Odds: Miami Marlins (+162) at Chicago Cubs (-188)

Pitching Matchup: Sixto Sanchez (3-2, 3.46 ERA, 1.21 WHIP) vs Yu Darvish (8-3, 2.01 ERA, 0.96 WHIP)

Sixto Sanchez made seven starts this season and was either brilliant or got roughed up. Sanchez gave up two earned runs or less in four starts and three earned runs or more in his three other starts. The rookie had a rough end to the season as he allowed nine earned runs and 12 hits in just seven innings of work over his last two starts. For September, Sanchez posted a 4.00 ERA in 27.0 innings.

Yu Darvish was the NL Cy Young front runner heading into September, but the righty struggled a bit in his final few starts and cost himself the award. Darvish posted a 1.09 ERA in 33.0 innings during August and posted a 2.73 ERA in 33.0 innings in September. The righty had two great starts in September and three not so great appearances.

Batting Stats:

The only player from both teams to be in the top 15 of any major offensive categories, during the regular season, was Marlins third baseman Brian Anderson who finished tied for 13th with 38 RBI’s on the year.

Kyle Schwarber and Javy Baez were bottom five in the National League in batting average, with Schwarber being dead last at .188 and Baez having the fifth lowest average at .202.

MLB Predictions: The Chicago Cubs force a game three.
