The Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners open a two-game series Monday night, so here’s the best betting pick for their interleague showdown at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. The reigning champs are listed as -190 favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook, while the Mariners sit at +175 moneyline odds with a total of 8.0 runs.
The Dodgers and Mariners met each other in a four-game home-and-home set in 2020, and Los Angeles beat Seattle 3-1. The Mariners have won just two of their previous 12 encounters with the Dodgers, but they have high hopes ahead of this one after starting the 2021 MLB season on the right foot.
Los Angeles just snapped an eight-game winning streak
The Los Angeles Dodgers (13-3) are coming off a 5-2 defeat to the San Diego Padres this past Sunday. The reigning champions put an end to an eight-game winning streak but still managed to win a three-game series against their divisional foes.
The Dodgers are topping the NL West at the moment, three and a half games ahead of San Diego and San Francisco. They are second in the majors in runs scored per game (5.62), fifth in batting average (.262), and first in OPS (.811). The Dodgers smacked 22 homers through their first 16 games of the season, enough for the third-most in the MLB.
Dustin May will take the mound for the Dodgers on Monday, and the 23-year-old right-hander is 1-0 with a 1.74 ERA in two starts this season. May tossed 4.1 innings in a no-decision against Colorado last time out, striking out six in the process and yielding a couple of earned runs on seven hits and a walk. He’s never met the Mariners before.
Seattle won four of its last five games
The Seattle Mariners (10-6) have played very well over the last ten days, winning seven of their previous nine contests and four of the previous five. They are coming off a three-game home series against the Houston Astros, tallying a couple of wins along with a 1-0 defeat in the middle contest. Last night, the Mariners smashed Houston 7-2, allowing just one hit to their opponents.
Seattle is now topping the AL West, half a game ahead of the Los Angeles Angels. The Mariners are 14th in the majors in runs scored per game (4.38), 17th in batting average (.229), and 16th in OPS (.689). They’ve hit 17 round-trippers thus far (tied-14th in the MLB).
Justus Sheffield will get the starting nod for Monday’s opener, and the 24-year-old lefty is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA in a couple of starts this term. Last week, Sheffield threw six frames in a no-decision against Baltimore, allowing a pair of runs on three hits and two walks while punching out five. He’ll get the Dodgers for the first time in his career.
- 8-1 in the last nine games overall
- 4-1 in the last five games against the American League
- 2-10 in the last 12 games against the Dodgers
The Dodgers have been terrific so far this season and will look to bounce back after that painful loss to the Padres. On the other side, the Mariners are playing in a good form, but I don’t think they’ll have enough firepower to deal with the Dodgers.
Seattle’s relievers have been outstanding in their previous series against Houston, so I’m expecting some regression Monday. The Dodgers’ lineup is one of the most dangerous in baseball and should be a key factor in Monday’s clash.
Pick: Take Los Angeles Dodgers at -190
The over is 9-3 in the last 12 encounters between the Dodgers and Mariners, and it is 6-1 in their previous seven meetings in Seattle. I would stick with these betting trends, though betting on the Dodgers to win is my first choice here.
Both teams will have to rest some arms in their bullpens following a tough weekend, and while the Dodgers possess great depth, the Mariners could be in trouble Monday against LA’s prolific offense.
Pick: Go over 8.0 runs at -110
