Total O/U: 7
The Los Angeles Dodgers (20-13) and Clayton Kershaw (1-0 2.25 ERA) begin a three-game series today in San Diego against the Padres (18-14) and Eric Lauer (2-3 4.41 ERA).
Kershaw has only been back for a few weeks, but it seems like he hasn’t missed a beat. In his three starts, Kershaw has pitched 20 innings and hasn’t allowed more than two runs in a single start. Two of those starts were against the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds, but the Padres offense isn’t much better, so Kershaw should be able to find the same success tonight. His 0.75 WHIP is one of the best in the National League.
Lauer had a great start to his 2019 season with six scoreless innings against the San Francisco Giants. Since then, he has seen a bit of a decline. In his last five starts, Lauer has allowed 16 earned runs and five home runs in just 26 ⅔ innings. Two of those starts were against the Giants for a second time and the Cincinnati Reds, two offenses that rank near the bottom of the league in runs scored. If Lauer struggles against those types of offenses, the Dodgers should have no trouble scoring on him.
Lauer has walked five batters in his last 10 innings and the Dodgers draw the third most walks in baseball. Between Lauer’s command issues and the Dodgers high powered offense, Los Angeles should have no trouble scoring in this game. As good as Kershaw is, even an average outing today should easily get the win for the Dodgers. Los Angeles should be able to hit the Over on their own in this one.
