Betting Odds: Los Angeles Dodgers-174/Los Angeles Angels+164

Total O/U: 9

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the league’s best record (45-21 .682 win percentage) and will be sending out Hyun-Jin Ryu (9-1 1.35 ERA) tonight to pick up another win. Looking to stop the Dodgers will be the Los Angeles Angels (31-35). Pitching for the Angels will be Griffin Canning (2-2 3.52 ERA)

Ryu makes the start today for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He very well could be the early leader for the N.L. Cy Young Award. Among qualified pitchers, Ryu is second in the Majors in WHIP (0.78), first in ERA (1.35), first in walks allowed (5), and tied for the lead in wins (9). Ryu has yet to allow more than two earned runs in any start this season. He has pitched five scoreless outings with at least seven innings. All five were within his last six starts.

Canning has had an up-and-down season so far this year. In his last start, he allowed four earned runs in six innings against the Oakland Athletics. Prior to that start, his three previous starts Canning went 18 innings and only allowed two earned runs. Home runs have been an issue for Canning this year (allowed seven in just 38 ⅓ innings).

Ryu will be going up against a decent offense in the Los Angeles Angels that average 5.1 runs per game (T9th). However, with an excellent offense of his own that scores 5.3 runs per game (T3rd), Ryu should get plenty of run support even if he doesn’t have his best day. Although, I do expect Ryu will continue his early season success and have another solid outing today as the Dodgers pick up another win. The Dodgers get the win and the game stays UNDER thanks to some solid pitching from Canning as well.
