The 2021 MLB season goes on with seven games on Friday’s slate including the NL West showdown at Coors Field in Denver, so here’s the best Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Colorado Rockies betting pick along with the latest odds and team news.
The Dodgers and Rockies opened a four-game series Thursday afternoon, and Colorado stunned Los Angeles as a +190 home underdogs on an Opening Day, 8-5. The Rockies are massive +230 dogs for the second contest of the series, while the Dodgers sit at -255 moneyline odds on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Colorado leaned on its offense to outlast the reigning champs
The Colorado Rockies entered the new MLB season as massive +6600 underdogs to win the NL West. Projected as the worst team in their division, the Rockies didn’t care a lot about the odds yesterday, beating the reigning MLB champions on the back of excellent offensive performance.
Although they couldn’t get a homer, the Rockies tortured LA’s pitching staff while recording ten hits off Clayton Kershaw. On the other side of the ball, German Marquez lasted four innings, while Chi Chi Gonzales earned a win despite allowing three earned runs on five hits.
Antonio Senzatela will take the mound for the Rockies on Friday. The 26-year-old righty went 5-3 this past shortened season, sporting a 3.44 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. Senzatela is 3-3 in eight career starts and a couple of relief apps against the Dodgers, tallying a 5.74 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP. Last year, he was 1-1 in three starts against the reigning champs and had a 4.76 ERA through 17 innings of work.
The Dodgers had a disappointing Opening Day
The Los Angeles Dodgers are runaway favorites to win the NL West at -300 odds. They are listed as +350 to go all the way and retain the World Series, but the Dodgers will have to improve a lot in order to win their division in the first place.
Clayton Kershaw allowed five earned runs on ten hits over 5.2 innings, while reliever Jimmy Nelson yielded a couple of runs in the seventh inning. The Dodgers recorded 15 hits and eight walks, but it wasn’t enough against the resilient Colorado team.
Trevor Bauer will make his debut in the Dodgers’ jersey on Friday, and the 30-year-old right-hander went 5-4 in 11 starts with Cincinnati in 2020, posting a tremendous 1.73 ERA and 0.79 WHIP along with a 100/17 K/BB ratio through 73 innings of work. The one-time All-Star is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in three career starts against the Rockies.
- 14-6 in the last 20 games overall
- 14-5 in the last 19 games against Colorado
- 7-13 in the last 20 games overall
- 6-12 in the last 18 games at home
I’m looking for a bounce-back performance by the Dodgers who possess plenty of offensive weapons. The visitors need some good pitching at Coors Field, but their offense will be fired up following a tough loss on an Opening Day.
I don’t trust the Rockies’ bullpen at this moment, as it’s the opening week of the season. On the other side, Trevor Bauer will look for a solid debut, and the Dodgers’ bullpen will have to make some amends in this one.
Pick: Take LA Dodgers -1.5 at -170
Of course, the line is sky-high at Coors Field, but the opening clash produced 13 runs in total despite zero home runs. Therefore, I have to go with the over, expecting to see some long balls in the second game of the series.
As I’ve mentioned, the Dodgers’ lineup is loaded. The reigning champs led the MBL last season in runs scored per game (5.82) and total home runs (118). Six of the last nine encounters between the Dodgers and Rockies produced 12 or more runs in total.
Pick: Go over 11.5 runs at -110
