A National League West battle begins on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, when the Los Angeles Dodgers (22-8) visit the San Francisco Giants (14-16) begin game one of a three-game series. Los Angeles is the best team in baseball and lead the NL West by four games. San Francisco is in fourth place in the NL West and trail the Dodgers by eight games. This game will air live on FS1 at 9:45 p.m. EST.
Los Angeles hosted a struggling Colorado Rockies team over the weekend and came away with a routine three-game sweep. The Dodgers won game one 5-1, game two 4-3, and then blew the Rockies out 11-3 to clinch the sweep.
San Francisco also hosted a slumping team over the weekend, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and, just like Dodgers, swept Arizona right out of Northern California. The Giants pitching was dominant as they won 6-2 in game one, 5-1 in game two, and 6-1 in game three.
Below is my pick for the Major League Baseball showdown between the Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants. All odds are from PointsBet Sportsbook.
Odds: Los Angeles Dodgers (-205) at San Francisco Giants (+176)
Pitching Matchup: Julio Urias (2-0, 2.74 ERA, 1.26 WHIP) vs Johnny Cueto (2-0, 4.35 ERA, 1.13 WHIP)
Julio Urias has been solid all season long but did have the Dodgers shortest outing of the season last time out. In Urias’s first four starts this season the lefty gave up a combined six earned runs and 18 hits in 21.1 innings pitched. Strangely enough, Urias only lasted 1.2 innings in his last start, but gave up just four hits and one earned run.
Johnny Cueto has turned things around his last two starts after struggling a bit to start 2020. Cueto gave up 10 earned runs in his first three starts of the season, but has cleaned some things up and has given up just four combined earned runs in his last two starts.
Mookie Betts, unsurprisingly, has been the best acquisition in baseball this season as the right fielder is leading Los Angeles with a .300 batting average, 11 home runs, 24 RBI’s, and 33 hits. Left fielder Chris Taylor leads the Dodgers with a .377 on base percentage.
The San Francisco Giants have been balanced on offense this season as three different players lead the team in the five major categories. Left fielder Mike Yastrzemski leads the team with a 23 RBI’s, .429 on base percentage and 34 hits. Shortstop Donovan Solano leads the way with a .363 batting average and second baseman Wilmer Flores powers the team with seven home runs.
