The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) weekend rolls along as teams look to build off strong Friday wins. For the second consecutive day the KT Wiz (9-12) take on the Kiwoom Heroes (11-11) will do battle on American television on Saturday May 30, 2020. This game will air live on ESPN at 4:00 a.m. EST.
Eric Jokisch pitched his fifth straight gem to start the season and led the Kiwoom Heroes to a 5-1 win over the KT Wiz. Jokisch pitched seven innings allowing zero earned runs, one total run, on five hits. The lefty struck out nine batters en route to pushing his 2020 record to 4-0. Kiwoom was led at the plate by Park Byung-ho and Lee Ji-young, who each had two RBIs on the night.
Below is my pick for the KT Wiz vs Kiwoom Heroes. All odds are from BetMGM Sportsbook.
KT Wiz (+104) vs Kiwoom Heroes (-128): O/U 10.5 (-104/-122)
Pitching Match-Up: William Cuevas (1-1, 5.55 ERA) vs Choi Won-tae (0-2, 3.86 ERA)
William Cuevas has had a rough start to the 2020 season, having given up four plus earned runs in three of his four starts. The righty is averaging 6.1 innings, 3.8 earned runs, 5.5 hits, and 5.2 strikeouts per game. Cuevas had a solid first season in the KBO, last season, posting a 13-10 record and a 3.62 ERA.
Choi Won-tae has pitched much better than his record indicates as the sixth-year pro has given up more than two earned runs just once in four starts. The righty took an unfortunate loss, last time out, after giving up just one earned run in six innings of work. Won-tae is averaging 5.2 innings, 2.2 earned runs, 5.5 hits, and 3.8 strikeouts per game.
The KT Wiz have two of the best batting average guys in the league as Mel Rojas is second with a .415 batting average and Bar Jeong-dae is fourth with a .377 average. Kang Baek-ho has been hitting the long ball this season with five home runs already this year, tied for fifth in the league. Jang Sung-woo leads the Wiz, and is tied for ninth in the league, with 16 RBS’s in 70 plate appearances.
Kiwoom also has some players up near the top of the leaderboard as Lee Jung-hoo is ninth in the league with a .354 batting average. Park Byung-ho and Park Dong-won tied for fifth in the league with five home runs each and Jung-hoo is third in the league with 19 RBIs.
Prediction: Give me the Kiwoom Heroes in this one.
