An American League Central battle continues Saturday, August 29, 2020, when the Kansas City Royals (12-20) visit the Chicago White Sox (20-12). The White Sox are part of a three-way tie at the top of the American League Central with the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins. Kansas City sit at the bottom of the AL Central and are eight games back of those three teams. This game will air live on FS1 at 2:10 p.m. EST.
The Chicago White Sox continued their winning ways with a 6-5 walkoff win Friday night. This game went back and forth all night and saw Kansas City tie the game up in the top of the ninth. All of that led up to Yasmani Grandal blasting his third career walkoff home run. That is now three wins in a row for the Chicago White Sox.
Below is my pick for the Major League Baseball showdown between the Kansas City Royals at Chicago White Sox. All odds are from MGM Sportsbook.
Kansas City Royals (+148) at Chicago White Sox (-161)
Pitching Matchup: Brady Singer (1-3, 5.16 ERA, 1.35 WHIP) vs Dylan Cease (4-2, 3.13 ERA, 1.33 WHIP)
Brady Singer has struggled to go far into games this season as the right has yet to pitch more than 5.2 innings in any game this season. Recently, Singer has faced the Minnesota Twins in three straight starts and has struggled against the AL Central leaders. Singer has given up a combined 15 hits and nine earned runs over 14.2 innings pitched.
Dylan Cease is putting together a great stretch of games since having a rough opening start of 2020. In his last five starts, Cease has not allowed more than two earned runs in any game, though he did give up four unearned runs in a start and has lowered his ERA in each start this season. Last time out, Cease gave up four hits and two earned runs, in six innings pitched, in a loss to the Chicago Cubs.
Center fielder Whitt Merrifield is leading the way for Kansas City with a .297 batting average and designated hitter Jorge Soler has a team high .348 on base percentage, .509 slugging percentage, and a .857 OPS. Soler also leads the Royals with eight home runs and 21 RBI’s.
Left fielder Eloy Jimenez leads the White Sox with a .322 batting average and first baseman Jose Abreu leads the way with a .362 on base percentage, a .667 slugging percentage, and a 1.029 OPS. Abreu also leads the way with 12 home runs and 30 RBI’s.
MLB Picks: I like the Chicago White Sox to continue their winning ways.
