Houston Astros at Arizona Diamondbacks – 08/05/20 – MLB Odds, Preview & Prediction

A western interleague battle is on the schedule for Wednesday, August 5, 2020, when the AL West’s Houston Astros (6-4) visits the NL West’s Arizona Diamondbacks (3-8). Neither team has gotten off to the start they would have hopped for, but one good series goes a long way in a 60-game season. This game will air live on MLB Network at 9:10 p.m. EST.

Houston opened this series with a dominant 8-2 win on Tuesday night. The Astros scored three runs in the first two innings in part to two solo home runs by Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa. Houston put the game away in the fifth inning by putting up a five spot thanks to errors, walks, and two key hits. Arizona scored runs a RBI single in the bottom of the fourth and a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh.

Below is my pick for the Major League Baseball showdown between the Houston Astros and Arizona Diamondbacks. All odds are from DraftKings Sportsbook.

Houston Astros (-175) at Arizona Diamondbacks (+145)

Pitching Matchup: Lance McCullers Jr. (1-0, 5.40 ERA, 10K) vs Robbie Ray (0-2, 8.64 ERA, 11K)

Lance McCullers has had an ok start to the season, but the veteran will look to sharpen a few things up in his third start of the season. McCullers has pitched 10 innings this season and has allowed 11 hits, six earned runs, and walked seven batters. The righty won his season opening start against the Mariners but lasted just four innings in a no-decision against the Angels last time out.

Robbie Ray has had a forgettable start to the 2020 season as he has yet to last five innings and has gotten shelled in both starts. Ray started his season by giving up three earned runs in just 3.2 innings pitched against the Padres, and followed that up with a 4.2 inning, five earned run appearance against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The lefty will surely turn it around at some point and it would not be a surprise to see it happen Wednesday night.

History: Arizona leads the all-time series 73-58 but have not won the season series against Houston since 2012.

MLB Prediction: I like the Houston Astros to take game two of this series.

2020 Picks Record: 18-7
