The two AL favorites to reach the World Series have announced their presence with authority. For the Yankees it is no surprise that their bats are
Below are my picks for Monday’s ALDS games. All lines are from the FanDuel Sportsbook.
(NYY leads 2-0): New York Yankees (-142) at Minnesota Twins (+124): O/U 9 runs scored (-116/-106)
The Minnesota Twins record playoff losing streak extended to 15 games after the Yankees put up seven runs in the third inning Saturday night. The Yankees put up one run in the bottom of the first, thanks to an Edwin Encarnacion RBI single, but really broke the game open in the third inning with a seven run explosion. The inning was highlighted by a Didi Gregorius Grand Slam, but also featured contribution from Gleyber Torres, Brett Gardner and Giancarlo Stanton. The Twins got a run in the 4th and a run in the 9th, but the pitching performance by Masahiro Tanaka is exactly what New York needs if they want to win the World Series.
Game Three Pitching Matchup: Luis Severino (1.50 ERA in three starts) vs Jake Odroizzi (3.51 ERA in 30 starts)
Game Three Prediction: At some point the Twins will win a playoff game again….just not Monday night. Take the Yankees to get the sweep.
(Hou leads 2-0) Houston Astros (-150) at Tampa Bay Rays (+130): O/U 7.5 runs scored (-118/-104)
The Houston Astros took a commanding 2-0 series lead thanks to another masterful pitching performance by the expected AL Cy Young. Gerrit Cole went 7.2 IP and fanned 15 Rays en route to giving up 0 runs and just four hits. The expected Cy Young came ready to perform and MVP Candidate Alex Bregman also contributed by opening the scoring in the 4th inning with a solo HR. The ‘Stros tacked on two more runs in the later innings and held off the Rays 3-1 as the series shifts to Tampa.
Game Three Pitching Matchup: Zack Greinke (2.93 ERA in 33 starts) vs Charlie Morton (0.00 ERA in five playoff innings)
Game Three Prediction: Going from Verlander to Cole to Greinke is ridiculous, but I think the Rays grab one win this series. Take the Rays in this one.
(ATL leads 2-1) Atlanta Braves at St. Louis Cardinals – NO CURRENT LINE
Adam Wainwright spun 7.2 masterful innings Sunday and it looked like the St. Louis Cardinals were going to secure a crucial 2-1 series lead, but it all came crashing down in the Top of the 9th inning. Dansby Swanson hit a RBI double to tie the score up in the top of the 9th and then Adam Duvall singled in two to give the Braves a 3-1 lead. Mark Melancon came in and shut down the Cardinals to pull the Braves within one game of the National League Championship series.
Game Four Pitching Matchup: Dakota Hudson (3.35 ERA in 32 starts) vs TBD
Game Four Prediction: I thought this series was going five before it started and I still think that, so take the Cardinals.
(LA leads 2-1) LA Dodgers(+125) at Washington Nationals (-135):O/U 8 runs scored (-120/110)
The Washington Nationals got off to a quick start in a crucial game three getting a two run HR from Juan Soto in the bottom of the 1st inning and holding that lead until the top of the 5th. LA was able to get one run back in the 5th, thanks to a Max Muncy HR, and then exploded in the top of the 6th inning with seven runs to put this game away. Russell Martin and Kiki Hernandez had two key doubles to give the Dodgers a 5-2 lead and then Justin Turner capped off the inning with a three run bomb to put the game away. The Nats got two back in the bottom half of the 6th inning, but it wasn’t enough to get the Nationals the win Sunday night.
Game Four Pitching Matchup: Rich Hill (2.45 ERA in 13 starts) vs Max Scherzer (4.50 ERA in six postseason innings)
Game Four Prediction: The Dodgers put this one away, so take LA to get the win.
MLB Playoffs Record: 9-3
