The Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers start a three-game series at Dodger Stadium in LA after enjoying a day off on Monday, so here’s the best betting pick for their Tuesday night’s NL West showdown.
These two foes opened the 2021 MLB season with a four-game set at Coors Field in Denver, and the Dodgers won it 3-1 after a painful 8-5 defeat on an Opening Day. The reigning champs are massive -335 moneyline favorites to win this one at home, according to DraftKings Sportsbook, while the Rockies sit at +296 odds to win straight up.
Colorado hopes for a miracle, lost three in a row
The Rockies are struggling on both sides of the ball, tallying three wins and seven losses through their first ten outings of the season. They just got swept at San Francisco, scoring just four runs in a three-game set while yielding 11 in a return.
Colorado is still 10th in the majors in runs scored per game (4.80). The Rockies are 14th in batting average (.231), 25th in on-base percentage (.285), and ninth in slugging percentage (.418) mostly thanks to 13 home runs thus far. They certainly have a lot of room for improvement at the plate and will demand more from Trevor Story (12H, 3 RBI, .738 OPS) and Charlie Blackmon (6H, 4 RBI, .634 OPS).
Antonio Senzatela will toe the slab Tuesday, and the 26-year-old righty is 3-4 with a 6.70 ERA in nine career starts and a couple of relief appearances against the Dodgers. Last year, Senzatela went 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA in three starts against LA, but he was beaten hard by the Blue Crew on the second day of the 2021 season.
Senzatela was charged for a loss after surrendering seven earned runs on nine hits in just 3.1 innings of work, so he’ll try to make amends. Antonio managed to right the ship last Wednesday, earning his first win in 2021. The Rockies blanked Arizona 8-0, and Senzatela allowed just four hits and a couple of walks while striking out three through eight innings frames.
The Dodgers smashed Washington, sit top of the NL West
The reigning champs are on a three-game winning streak, topping the NL West with an 8-2 record. After a 2-1 series victory at the Oakland Athletics, the Dodgers thrashed off the Washington Nationals in a three-game set at home.
They’ve scored 13 runs including nine in the middle contest while blanking the Nats in the opener, 1-0, and the closer as well, 3-0. The Dodgers own the fifth-highest scoring offense in the majors (5.70 runs per game) and rank second in batting average (.284), first in on-base percentage (.380), and fourth in slugging percentage (.467).
Trevor Bauer will take the mound Tuesday, and the reigning NL Cy Young Award champ is 1-1 with a 4.37 ERA in four career starts against the Rockies. He’s 1-0 on the season, earning a win at Coors Field on April 2, as Bauer fanned ten through 6.1 innings of work while surrendering four earned runs on three hits and two walks.
The 30-year-old right-hander tossed 6.2 innings in the last week’s 4-3 loss at Oakland. He struck out ten once again and yielded a pair of earned runs on three hits and a walk.
- 2-7 in the last nine games overall
- 1-6 in the last seven games on the road
- 17-3 in the last 20 home games against Colorado
- 8-1 in the last nine games overall
The Dodgers are off to a flying start, so I’m backing them to beat the Rockies by two or more runs. Antonio Senzatela will have a mountain to climb, and I cannot expect too much improvement considering how bad he was last time against the Dodgers.
Senzatela’s pitching is too soft for the Blew Crew. On the other side, Bauer has been solid so far and should get a lot of help from his teammates.
Pick: Take Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 at -170
The previous matchup between Bauer and Senzatela ended up in an 11-6 Dodgers’ victory, as these two hurlers allowed 11 runs in total. Of course, that was at Coors Field, but I think the Rockies and Dodgers will put on a show once again.
Colorado has been awful in San Francisco and will look to bounce back. On the other side, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Dodgers humiliate Senzatela. Still, the hosts to cover look like a better option than betting on the totals.
Pick: Go over 8.0 runs at -110
