After an eight-game winning streak, the Colorado Rockies (31-28) dropped the first game of the series against the Chicago Cubs (33-26). Looking to start another lengthy winning streak, the Rockies will turn to German Marquez (6-2 3.48 ERA). Pitching for the Cubs and looking to continue their winning streak will be Yu Darvish (2-3 5.02 ERA).

Marquez has been the Rockies best pitcher so far this season. He has pitched 85 ⅓ innings on the season and has 83 strikeouts and 17 walks, with a WHIP of 1.14. Marquez has three scoreless starts this season, including a complete game one-hitter against the San Francisco Giants back in April. Seven of his 13 starts this season Marquez has allowed two earned runs or less.

Darvish hasn’t had a very good season up until this point. He does have three starts where he only allowed one earned run, but none of those starts he has pitched more than six innings. In fact, he has only pitched more than six innings in a single game once all season. In 12 starts, Darvish has only pitched 61 innings this season. He has 73 strikeouts and 41 walks with a WHIP of 1.56 this season. Darvish has allowed a team-high 11 home runs this season.

The Rockies have been one of baseball’s hottest teams of late. After starting the season 3-12, they have since gone 28-16. Their offense is now up to fourth in the league in runs per game after having a stagnant offense the first two-plus weeks of the season. Darvish doesn’t go deep into games and his command has been a serious issue this season. The Rockies offense should give him trouble today and they should be able to add some runs on the Cubs bullpen. Look for the Rockies to get back on the winning path in this game. The Rockies should be able to push the game OVER as well.
