Tonight is game two of the series between the Colorado Rockies (38-34) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (38-36). Jon Gray (6-5 4.38 ERA) of the Rockies goes up against Zack Greinke (8-2 2.65 ERA) of the Diamondbacks.

Considering half his starts have been at Coors Field, Gray’s 4.38 ERA isn’t all that bad. However, only two of his road starts Gray allowed less than three earned runs. Gray has pitched better at home. His two most recent starts Gray has struggled (eight earned runs in 11 ⅔ innings). Gray pitched against the Diamondbacks a few weeks ago (at home) and gave up two earned runs in 5 ⅓ innings with two walks and only two strikeouts.

Greinke is in the middle of another great season on the mound and has to be a part of the Cy Young conversation at this point. His 0.88 WHIP is one of the best in baseball and he has a great strikeout to walk ratio (85/14). Excluding his first start of the season, Greinke has only allowed more than three earned runs once (four against the Mets on June 1st). Greinke has pitched against Colorado twice this season (both no-decisions), going 12 innings while allowing four earned runs (both at Coors Field).

Gray has been better at home and Greinke has pitched well against Colorado even on the road this year. Greinke has looked solid all season outside of his first start of the year and I like him to be the better pitcher in this game. Arizona’s bats were silent last night, but I think they wake back up today. Greinke’s pitching should keep Colorado to a low run total today and I think that the UNDER hits as well. Arizona will put up some runs, but don’t expect a huge day from them.
