The Chicago White Sox (29-33) take on the Kansas City Royals (20-43) in game two of their three-game series. The White Sox are sending out their best pitcher this season to even up the series, Lucas Giolito (8-1 2.54 ERA). Looking to pick up another win for the Royals will be Brad Keller (3-7 4.50 ERA).

Giolito was part of the trade that sent Adam Eaton to the Washington Nationals. He is now looking like a great addition for the White Sox. Giolito has four scoreless starts this season. Of his 11 starts this season only twice has he allowed more than three earned runs, both back in April. On the year, Giolito has pitched 67 ⅓ innings and has a 2.54 ERA with a 0.95 WHIP (3rd in the A.L.).  He has 78 strikeouts to only 20 walks.

Keller had his best start of the season on Opening Day, going seven innings and only allowing two hits (against the White Sox). Since then, Keller has had an up-and-down season. Five of his 12 other starts he has allowed at least four earned runs. Strikeouts haven’t been Keller’s thing this year, he only has 54 in 78 innings. Command has been an issue, as he is second in baseball in walks (42).

Giolito has been one of the best pitchers in the A.L. so far this season. A Royals offense that ranks in the bottom ten in both hits and runs should be a somewhat easy task for Giolito to handle. Giolito has already started three times against the Royals this season. In those three starts, he has pitched a total of 17 ⅓ innings and has allowed 5 earned runs (2-0 in those starts). Keller has also made three starts against the White Sox. He has totaled 18 innings and has allowed six earned runs (1-1).

Both pitchers have had success against the opposing team this season, so this should be a low scoring game. I like Giolito as the better pitcher here to pick up the win. Neither team has a very good offense, but I think Giolito puts up the better numbers today. The White Sox pick up a low scoring win that covers the UNDER.
