The Crosstown Classic gets underway Friday, August 21, 2020, when the Chicago White Sox (15-11) and Chicago Cubs (16-8) battle it out in the north side. The Cubs lead the NL Central by four games and the White Sox sit in third in the AL Central, two games back of the first place Twins. This game will air live on ESPN at 8:00 p.m. EST.
The White Sox are red hot as they just finished up a four-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers. Chicago won three of the four games by five or more runs and are rolling heading into this series.
The Cubs just finished playing five games in three days against the St. Louis Cardinals that saw Chicago win three of those five. Chicago split a doubleheader on Monday, won the single game on Tuesday, and split another doubleheader on Wednesday.
Below is my pick for the Major League Baseball showdown between the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs. All odds are from MGM Sportsbook.
Odds: Chicago White Sox (-116) at Chicago Cubs (+102)
Pitching Matchup: Dallas Keuchel (3-2, 3.07 ERA, 1.06 WHIP) vs Jon Lester (2-0, 2.74 ERA, 0.97 WHIP)
Dallas Keuchel has been solid so far this season as they veteran has not given up more than three earned runs in any start this season. Keuchal has given the White Sox at least 5.1 innings in each start and allowed no more than seven hits in a game.
Jon Lester had been money to start the season but got roughed up a bit in his most recent start. Lester started the season with three starts that saw him give up a combined two earned runs and seven hits. Last time out, Lester was tagged for nine hits and five earned runs in six innings against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Jose Abreu leads the way with a .292 batting average, 19 RBI’s, and 31 hits. Eloy Jimenez has a team high eight home runs and Yoan Moncada leads the way with a .352 on base percentage.
Ian Happ has been a stud all season and he leads the Cubs in all major offensive categories. The second baseman has a .315 batting average, 23 hits, a .438 on base percentage, six home runs, and 14 RBI’s.
