Location: Marlins Park Miami, Florida

Betting Odds: Chicago-160/Miami+144

Total O/U: 8.5

Cole Hamels (2-0 3.79 ERA) will try and pitch the Chicago Cubs (7-9) to a much needed sweep of the Miami Marlins (4-14). Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara (1-1 4.24 ERA) will try to prevent that from happening.

Since his first outing of the season where he got rocked by the Texas Rangers in five innings (five earned runs and three walks), Hamels has improved in each start after, including an eight inning four-hitter against the Los Angeles Angels where he only surrendered one earned run.

Alcantara has been trending in the opposite direction so far this season. His first start of the year was a great one, lasting eight innings and only allowing four hits and zero earned runs while striking out six and walking none against a struggling Colorado Rockies offense. Since that start, Alcantara has ran into some better offensive teams in the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies. He lasted four innings and walked five while giving up two earned runs against the Braves and five innings, 11 hits, and six earned runs against the Phillies.

Since their rough start to the season the Cubs have started to hit their stride, winning five of their last seven games. With a veteran lefty like Hamels on the mound who is improving as the season goes, the Cubs should be able to continue their winning ways today in Miami (who have lost 12 of their last 14). Alcantara can throw hard (hitting 100 MPH), but has yet to get comfortable at the MLB level. Cubs hitters should be able to attack that fastball as the game goes on and Alcantara starts to rely on that pitch to get him out of trouble.
