Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox – Odds, Preview & Prediction – 09/25/20

Two teams who are limping into the final series of the regular season do battle on Friday, September 25, 2020, when the Chicago Cubs (32-25) visit the Chicago White Sox (34-23) for the final three game series of the season. The Cubs have lost three straight games and now have just a 2.5 game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. The White Sox have lost five in a row and lost their lead in the AL Central as they now trail the Minnesota Twins by one game. If the playoffs started today the Cubs would be the three seed in the NL, facing the Miami Marlins, and the White Sox would be the fourth seed, facing the New York Yankees. This game will air live on ESPN2 at 8:00 p.m. EST.

After winning game one 5-0, the Chicago Cubs lost the final three games of their series with the now 18-39 Pittsburgh Pirates. It was a poor showing by the Cubs. The Cubs have scored one run or less in five of their last seven games.

The White Sox hosted the Cleveland Indians for four games and dropped four close games. With the four-game sweep Cleveland is now just one game back of the White Sox for second in the AL Central.

Below is my pick for the Chicago Cubs at Chicago White Sox. All odds are from BetMGM Sportsbook.

Odds: Chicago Cubs (-152) at Chicago White Sox (+132)

Pitching Matchup: Yu Darvish (7-3, 2.22 ERA, 1.00 WHIP) vs Dylan Cease (5-3, 3.52 ERA, 1.43 WHIP)

Yu Darvish looked like he was on his way to winning the NL Cy Young, but three consecutive poor starts has poured cold water on that idea. In his last three starts, Darvish has given up a combined 20 hits and 10 runs (nine earned) in 19.0 innings pitched. Darvish has given up at least three runs in each of those three starts, something that did not happen in his previous seven starts. The righty went seven consecutive starts without giving up more than one earned run.

Dylan Cease has had a nice rookie season and he will look to close out the regular season with some momentum as the White Sox prepare for the postseason. Cease has started 11 games and has allowed three earned runs of more in just three of those starts. The righty has allowed 45 hits and 25 runs (21 earned) in 53.2 innings pitched this season.

MLB Picks: I like the Chicago Cubs in this one.

2020 Picks Record: 56-39
