The biggest rivalry in baseball has its final game of the series tonight. The Boston Red Sox (29-29) will be looking to avoid the sweep against the New York Yankees (38-19). David Price (2-2 2.83 ERA) will be looking to get the win for the Red Sox while CC Sabathia (3-1 3.48 ERA) will be going for the sweep for the Yankees.
Price has rebounded well after two rough outings to start the season. He hasn’t allowed an earned run since May 2nd but has missed some time on the IL between then and now. In his nine starts this year, Price has pitched 47 ⅔ innings and has a WHIP of 1.03. He has 53 strikeouts to go along with 11 walks.
Sabathia has been the opposite of Price this season. His first two starts he didn’t allow a single earned run but he has allowed 16 earned runs in his last six starts. In those six starts, Sabathia has only pitched 31 ⅓ innings. Sabathia has 34 strikeouts in 41 ⅓ innings this season and has 17 walks as well. He owns a WHIP of 1.26 this season.
Price has been pitching some of his best baseball of the season in his last few starts. If any pitcher on the Red Sox staff is going to get them a win against the Yankees right now, it is Price. Sabathia has pitched decently this season, but his control isn’t what it has been in years past. The Red Sox are fifth in hits per game and third in walks while striking out the seventh least in baseball. They should give Sabathia a hard time and should be able to manufacture runs by drawing walks and timely hitting. The Red Sox get one win in this series and neither team should score too many runs in this one. The UNDER should hold up as well.
