An American League East battle begins on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, when the Baltimore Orioles (14-14) visit the Tampa Bay Rays (19-11) in game one of their three game series. Tampa Bay is currently in second place in the AL East but are just half a game back of the first place New York Yankees. Baltimore sits in fourth place in the division and are four games back of the Yanks. This game will air live on FS1 at 6:40 p.m. EST.
Baltimore is coming off a four-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays and came away with a 2-2 series split. Toronto won game one 6-5 in 10 innings, but Baltimore fought back with a 2-1 win in extras in game two. Baltimore then one another close one on Sunday, 5-4, but fell in the series finale 6-4.
Tampa Bay also split a four-game series as they won the final two games to split with the Boston Red Sox. Boston won game one 7-1 and game two 8-5, but Tampa fought back for two tough wins Saturday and Sunday. Tampa won 5-1 in extras on Saturday and 5-4 on Sunday.
Below is my pick for the Major League Baseball showdown between the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays. All odds are from DraftKings Sportsbook.
Odds: Baltimore Orioles (+190) at Tampa Bay Rays (-225)
Pitching Matchup: Tommy Milone (1-3 4.13 ERA, 1.33 WHIP) vs Tyler Glasnow (0-1, 6.00 ERA, 1.52 WHIP)
Tommy Milone is ready for his sixth start of 2020 and will look to carry over momentum from a quality start last time out. Milone has had an up and down season and he has given up one earned run of less in two starts but has given up three earned runs or more in the other three starts. Milone can put together a gem, but it might tough against this Rays offense.
Tyler Glasnow rebounded from two tough starts in a row to hold the New York Yankees to just two hits and two earned runs. Glasnow has three starts this season where he allowed two earned runs or less but got roughed up in two starts where he gave up a combined nine earned runs.
Cather Pedro Severino is having a stellar season at the plate as he leads the Orioles with a .333 batting average and a .415 on base percentage. Anthony Santander is powering the way for Baltimore as the right fielder has 10 home runs and 27 RBI’s in 2020. Second baseman Hanser Alberto leads the way with 35 hits on the year.
Brandon Lowe is having a spectacular 2020 season as the second baseman leads the Rays with a .304 batting average, nine home runs, 25 RBI’s and 31 hits on the season. Third baseman Yandy Diaz leads the way with a .432 on base percentage.
MLB Picks: Give me the Tampa Bay Rays in this one.
