After being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Atlanta Braves (18-19) will look to get back on the winning path when they begin their four-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks (21-16). The Braves’ Mike Soroka (3-1 1.14 ERA) will battle Luke Weavers (3-1 3.29 ERA) for the second time this season.
In Soroka’s four starts this season he has yet to allow more than one earned run. His first start of the season was against the Diamondbacks where he went five innings and only allowed one earned run but picked up his only loss of the season. In 23 ⅔ innings, this season Soroka has a 1.01 WHIP and has struck out 27 batters while walking eight.
Weaver has lowered his ERA to 3.29 after a rough start to the season that saw it as high as 8.31. The last time Weaver pitched against the Braves was last month where he went five shutout innings and only allowed four hits. Weaver is coming off of his best start of the season, seven innings only allowing three hits and one earned run.
Both pitchers are having good seasons and this should be another low scoring game with great pitching, like the last time these two pitchers battled each other. Arizona is coming off of a 13 inning game in Tampa Bay yesterday that saw them use eight pitchers. Atlanta is coming into Phoenix from nearby Los Angeles.
I expect Soroka to get the better of Weaver in this one. The status of the Diamondbacks bullpen is unknown in this one, and if Weaver gets chased early, Arizona could be in for a long night. Atlanta draws a lot of walks and doesn’t strikeout much. I think they pick up a low scoring win that makes the UNDER a great bet as well.
