A key four-game battle in the National League East concludes on Monday, August 10, 2020, when the Atlanta Braves (11-6) and Philadelphia Phillies (4-6) finish their weekend series. Atlanta are in second place in the NL East, half a game back of the first place Miami Marlins, and the Phillies are in fourth place, 3.5 games back of those Marlins. This game will air live on FS1 at 6:05 p.m. EST.
Philadelphia won the opening game of this series 5-0 but lost both games of a doubleheader on Sunday. Atlanta won the first game 5-2 and then cruised to an 8-0 win in the second game on Sunday. The Braves will look for the series win on Monday.
Below is my pick for the Major League Baseball showdown between the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies. All odds are from Sugarhouse Sportsbook.
Atlanta Braves (+136) at Philadelphia Phillies (-156)
Pitching Matchup: Sean Newcomb (0-1, 6.57 ERA, 9K) vs Aaron Nola (0-1, 3.97 ERA, 19K)
Sean Newcomb prepares for his fourth start of the season and will look to build off his last start. Newcomb has had two nice starts but sandwiched that with a drubbing at the hands of the New York Mets. The lefty lasted just 4.2 innings last time out, against Toronto, but allowed just five hits and two earned runs in the outing. Newcomb’s first start of the season, against the Mets, saw him go 3.1 innings and allow just three hits three hits and one earned run. In his other start against the Mets, Newcomb allowed six hits and six earned runs in 4.1 innings of work.
Aaron Nola allowed four runs, and five hits, in his opening start of the season, but has rebounded and looks like the ace he has been the last few years. Nola made his second start of the season against the New York Yankees and allowed just three hits and one earned run in six innings of work.
History: The Atlanta Braves lead the all-time series 1,177 – 1,287 after taking the two of the first three games of this series.
Free MLB Picks: I like Philadelphia Phillies to get the series split on Monday.
