Total O/U: 9

Two hot teams, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Washington Nationals begin a four-game series. Zack Greinke (7-2 2.87 ERA) takes the mound for the Diamondbacks and has had a great season up to this point. Pitching for the Nationals is reliever turned starter, Erick Fedde (1-0 2.93 ERA).

Greinke has one of the best WHIPs in the N.L. at 0.94. His strikeout-to-walk ratio is one of the best in the N.L. as well, with 82 strikeouts to just 14 walks. Making his 15th start of the year, Greinke has pitched a total of 87 ⅔ innings. Half of his starts Greinke has allowed one earned run or less. He is coming off of one of his best starts of the season, six scoreless innings while only allowing four hits.

Eric Fedde makes his fifth start for the Nationals. Starting the season in the bullpen, Fedde isn’t the type of pitcher that is going to go late into games. Only one of his four starts has he gone more than five innings, and it was only for six. His last two starts were against struggling offenses (San Diego and Cincinnati) and he allowed five earned runs in 10 innings between those starts.

With a struggling Nationals bullpen that is the worst in baseball with a 6.33 ERA, a pitcher that only goes five or six innings is going to be a liability. Look for the Diamondbacks fifth-ranked offense to tear into the Nationals bullpen. The Diamondbacks are one of the highest scoring teams in baseball from the seventh inning on. I like Grienke to have a solid game while the Arizona offense smacks the ball around all game. The Diamondbacks will flirt with the OVER on their own, but a couple of Nationals runs should solidify the OVER just in case.
