This interconference matchup between playoff hopefuls is an interesting one, and one with a wider line that I would have expected. We have seen the Packers play up and down already this season, and it will be interesting to see what happens in their first spot against a high end defense. We have also seen the arm deterioration of Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, but he gets top wide receiver Diontae Johnson back this week to help counteract that issue.
Steelers vs Packers Betting Pick
This game will be played at 4:25PM EST on Sunday October 2nd, 2021 at Lambeau Field.
Why bet the Steelers
✅ The Steelers are starting to learn what they have in running back Najee Harris. With Diontae Johnson out last week, Harris saw an insane 19 targets in just his third NFL game. This overuse of the running back position was not ideal against the surprisingly stout front of the Bengals, but it will be far more successful against the Packers. The Packers have been friendly enough to running backs on the ground, but have also been beaten by backs catching the ball. They’ve allowed 17 catches for 105 yards and a pair of touchdowns thus far, and now have to deal with Harris. Diontae Johnson returning to the lineup is a massive boost as well, as he lives open and give Roethlisberger an open target on essentially every snap.

✅ After that abysmal Week 1 performance in New Orleans, the Packers righted the ship and scored 30 and 35 points against lesser defenses. Now we get to see the true test of just how much of an outlier that Week 1 performance was. The Steelers will present the most difficult matchup to date, and the first that can truly try to take away Davante Adams with their secondary.
✅ Given the particular matchups, I expect the Steelers to move the ball with greater success than have in any other matchup so far, and for the opposite to hold true for the Packers. The line being nearly a full touchdown is excessive in this spot, and it is quite reasonable to think the game comes down to the final possession. With that being the case, it is a no brainer to take the points.
