The Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders will look a little different than they did last season when they face off in Week 1 of the 2023 season. Vegas will feature a new starting quarterback, while the Broncos hope to improve under a new head coach. Read on for our NFL predictions for this Raiders vs Broncos contest in the AFC West.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Derek Carr era is over for the Las Vegas Raiders, as the long-time signal caller in Vegas has moved onto the New Orleans Saints. It will be Jimmy Garoppolo that serves as the new quarterback for the Raiders, as he looks for a fresh start after an injury-plagued tenure with the San Francisco 49ers. Garoppolo will have a ton of weapons to work with as the quarterback of his new team, which he will hope to use to open this season with a win.
While the Raiders offense should still perform admirably with Garoppolo at quarterback, their defense will be the concern going into this Raiders vs Broncos matchup. Las Vegas finished 26th in scoring defense a season ago. To start their season on a better note this year, their pass rush will need to get home early and often against Russell Wilson, who holds onto the ball for enough time that the Raiders could pile up the sacks.
Denver Broncos
Last season’s Denver Broncos were among the biggest disappointments in the NFL, going 5-12 and finishing at the bottom of the AFC West. Their offense was one of the worst in the NFL despite bringing in Russell Wilson. But they will hope for better results this season, with Sean Payton coaching them, which could mean a much more potent offense.
In 2022, the Broncos went just 3-5 against the spread at home, which was tied for the fifth-worst home record against the spread in the NFL. But if Wilson can avoid mistakes in this game, and the Broncos defense continues to cause problems after finishing in the top-half of the league in points allowed a year ago, they could start this year with a 1-0 record against the spread on their home turf.
