Jamie Mullarkey lost two straight as he entered the UFC. The loss to Brad Riddell was nothing to be ashamed of, but the loss to Fares Ziam was slightly more concerning. No matter, he bounced back with a quick knock out of Khama Worthy. More impressively, he followed that up with a come back win against Devonte Smith. Smith hit Mullarkey with his signature big shots in that first round, but Mullarkey refused to go out. Smith ultimately faded and Mullarkey notched a KO of his own in the second round.
The matchup did not get easier for Mullarkey, as Jalin Turner is on a tear himself. He has won three straight fights via finish, with the most recent two coming by way of submission. Turner’s early UFC days were a bit more dicey. He took a short notice fight up a weight class against Vincente Luque. That was not prudent as he was knocked out there, but other than that, Turner has had good durability. He also had a close decision loss to Matt Frevola, but his other four fights have all been finishes for Turner.
How This Fight Plays Out
Turner is a very long and sharp lightweight. His 6’3” frame with a 77” reach will give him a 3” advantage in both departments in this fight. His shots are tight, crisp and powerful and they come straight. He will absolutely pick Mullarkey apart in space for whatever portion of the fight takes place there. Mullarkey will need to get inside dirty boxing range to find success but the movement, range and straight shots of Turner are going to make that an extremely tall task.
We got to see Turner’s grappling game in his past couple fights, and that surprised a number of people. He is sharp on the mat, and will be the sharper fighter if this fight hits the floor, even if he starts in bottom position. We have seen mistakes from Mullarkey on the mat before, and another could lead to him being submitted in this one.
What To Bet
Turner has this fight covered in many aspects, and the betting line is short. He will be the higher volume striker. He will be the more powerful striker. Turner will also be the fighter that can much more easily end the fight on the mat. The real durability of Mullarkey is what makes me question whether a finish comes for Turner, but he should make this one an easy fight to score for the judges. Take Turner flat at -160.
Betting Pick: Turner -160
