Seattle Mariners -220 vs Texas Rangers
The Rangers are on the road, where they are the stone worst team in the American League. They will have Kolby Allard (2-10, 5.07) on the mound. In a more favorable spot, the Mariners at home will be pitching Logan Gilbert (5-3, 4.14). DraftKings has the Mariners as a -220 favorite in this matchup.
The Rangers are the second worst team in the American League by record, but they are the worst road team, and by a wide margin. They are 30 games under .500 on the road, and only one other team in the entire league is within seven games of that dreadful mark. Kolby Allard starting for the Rangers does not at all improve the situation. He began the year in a bullpen role, which he is much better suited for, as he has not had good results as a starter. The Rangers have lost his last nine starts overall and he has been the losing pitcher of record in the last eight of those starts. While he does not get rocked every time, he does allow multiple earned runs in every single start, and that in and of itself is enough to lose games, as the Rangers bats are among the worst in the league. Those bats have been serviceable against left handed pitching, but they do not get that benefit against Logan Gilbert.
Logan Gilbert has not been a world beater or a fully shutdown pitcher, but has certainly been a serviceable starter. He can be relied upon go to get into the sixth inning, have a solid strike out count and hover around the 100 pitch mark. In this matchup, that’s all that is needed for the Mariners at home. They are 15 games better at home than on the road and the matchup, both hitting and pitching, are highly lopsided in their favor.
Take the Mariners at home against the worst road team in the league and a pitcher that has been fully incapable of sniffing the win column in recent months.
