This game will be played at Rogers Centre at 4:07 PM ET on Friday, October 7, 2022.
Why Bet The Blue Jays:
✅ Backing a Blue Jays team with Alek Manoah on the mound is the prudent play in this contest. Manoah has won 16 games this season, a top-five number in the majors in 2022. He’s fourth in the league in ERA at 2.24, and opposing hitters are batting .191 against him in home games. Manoah is going to deliver at home once again for the Blue Jays to give the Jays the advantage in this series.

✅ Seattle’s record is inflated this season thanks to the division they play in. The AL West had two teams finish above .500 this season: the Houston Astros and the Mariners. They got nearly 60 games against subpar competition in the Angels, Athletics, and Rangers, while the Blue Jays played in an AL East with four teams that finished above .500. Iron sharpening iron will work in the Blue Jays’ favor here.
✅ This is the first postseason appearance by the Mariners in 21 years. While it is a great story that they have arrived at this stage, they completely lack postseason experience. In what will be a truly hostile environment to them, the Mariners will struggle in their first playoff game since 2001.
Seattle Mariners
The feel-good story of the 2022 MLB season has been the Seattle Mariners, who broke a 21-year playoff drought by claiming a Wild Card spot in the American League. Their reward is a road trip to Canada to take on the Toronto Blue Jays in the best-of-three Wild Card round. Here, the Mariners will aim to prove that they belong after such a long time away from the postseason.
Luis Castillo is set to start this game on the mound for the Mariners. He enters this game with an 8-6 record, but numbers that are way better than his record would suggest. Castillo has a 2.99 ERA this season and a WHIP of 1.08. The question for him will be whether his lack of postseason experience will get in his way here.
Toronto Blue Jays
This season, the Toronto Blue Jays had to deal with an absolute gauntlet of a division in the American League East. But they managed to get through it with a Wild Card spot, and a home series in the Wild Card playoff round. Now they will look to get out to a fast start against a Mariners team that does not have the same postseason experience that the Jays do.
Alek Manoah is going to get the start in Game 1 for the Blue Jays, which they hope will mean a series opening victory. Manoah has been one of the best pitchers in the American League this season, and would likely have received some Cy Young consideration if not for the season that Justin Verlander has put together. Here, Manoah aims to follow up on his 16-win regular season with his first win in this postseason.
