San Diego Padres meet the Colorado Rockies again again on Tuesday August 17, 2021 at 8:40 p.m. ET at Coors Field. The Padres will start Matt Strahm (0-0, 8.44) for the second game of their series in Colorado at Coors Field. On the other side it will be German Marquez (10-9, 3.78) on the mound for the Rockies at home. BetMGM opened the line with the Rockies at about -120 on the moneyline. With about 80% of the wagers coming in on the Padres the line has dropped to near pickem at -110
Both of these teams have a huge difference in their home/road splits. The Rockies remain the stone worst road team in the league, but are 18 games over .500 at home. They have the benefit of being the home team in this series and have other factors working to their advantage. The playoff contending Padres are actually a losing road team, while they are 16 games over .500 in the comforts of home. Their home/road split is not as lopsided as that of the Rockies, no one’s is, but it is noticeable.
The bullpen start for the Padres will be an issue, as the rockies lineup will get to the low end pitching options the Padres will be trotting out. Matt Strahm has given up at least an earned run in each of his last three appearances, despite never going longer than an inning and a third nor playing at Coors Field. His relief, Craig Stammen has been touched up of late as well. In his last five appearances, totalling five and a third innings, he’s allowed 14 hits and seven earned runs. Much like yesterday, the Rockies lineup will be licking their chops.
German Marquez is a quality starter, and normally quite reliable, He was rocked in his last road start, but those outings for him generally don’t happen often. He’s always good for six plus innings of quality work, putting his team in sound position to win. With the likely run support coming today, the price on him and the Rockies is one to jump on.
With just a -110 price tag, the Rockies are simply an immense value.
