Angels vs Rangers Betting Pick
This game will be played at Globe Life Field at 8:05 PM ET on Thursday, April 14, 2022.
Why Bet The Angels:
✅ Shohei Ohtani is 3-0 with a sharp 2.86 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in four career starts against the Rangers. All four came in 2021, and the reigning American League MVP surrendered only seven runs on 15 hits and ten walks through 22 innings of work while punching out 30. The current Rangers are 9-for-49 with a .419 OPS against Ohtani, who was excellent on Opening Day despite picking up a loss. Shohei fanned nine in a 3-1 home defeat to the Astros, allowing one earned run on four hits and a walk.
✅ Dane Dunning went 1-2 with a terrible 7.71 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in three starts against the Angels this past regular season. Through 14 innings of work, the 27-year-old righty allowed a whopping 12 earned runs on 16 hits and six walks. Dunning will be in trouble Thursday, while the Rangers’ bullpen shouldn’t help a lot after posting a 4.13 ERA and 4.51 FIP through its first five appearances in 2022.

✅ The Angels started the new season with a tough four-game series against Houston. They were no match up for the Astros’ pitching, and the Angels have scored only ten runs through four contests. Los Angeles got things going in the Marlins series, tallying ten runs across a couple of games. The Angels have a lot of dangerous bats in their lineup and should drastically improve when they face off against the Rangers’ pitching staff. Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout, and Anthony Rendon have combined for just nine hits thus far.
Los Angeles Angels
The Angels just swept a two-game home series against the Miami Marlins. After a 6-2 victory in the opener, the Angels barely outlasted the Marlins in the closer, 4-3. They’ve recorded 14 hits in those two wins, improving to 3-3 on the young season.
The Angels’ bullpen needs to get together after tallying an awful 6.31 ERA and 6.48 FIP through its first six appearances this season. Los Angeles’ relievers are yielding 2.81 home runs per nine innings, and that number can only go down.
Texas Rangers
The Rangers are coming off a two-game home series against the Colorado Rockies. After a tough 6-4 defeat in ten innings in the opener, the Rangers suffered a 4-1 loss in the closer last Tuesday. They’ve registered 13 hits through these two contests.
Texas is slashing .236/.327/.385 on the season. While Corey Seager has seven hits in 22 at-bats, Marcus Semien is horrible 2-for-22, and the Rangers desperately need more from the last season’s All-Star.
