Mercury vs Lynx Betting Pick
This game will be played at Target Center at 8:00 PM ET on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.
The Phoenix Mercury and Minnesota Lynx are two of the proudest franchises in the history of the WNBA. This season has gone poorly for both of them, though, as they sit outside of the eight playoff spots in the league going into the second half of the season. In our WNBA picks for Tuesday, we break down Mercury vs Lynx as both teams look for a much-needed victory coming out of the All-Star break.
Why Bet The Lynx:
✅ Minnesota played some excellent basketball at the end of the first half of the season. They went into the break with three wins in their last four games, and nearly went four of their last four. Included in that run came wins over the Las Vegas Aces and the Chicago Sky. Here, the Lynx will keep their run going against a poor defensive team in the Mercury.
✅ The Phoenix Mercury have been a disaster on the road this season so far. They are 4-10 away from Footprint Center on the season, and may have been even worse than that record would indicate on the road. Here, they will drop to 4-11 on the road, as the circus that has been the Phoenix Mercury’s season will only continue.

✅ Minnesota has been dominant in their games against the Phoenix Mercury so far this season. The Lynx have gone 2-0 against Phoenix, winning once at home and once on the road against the Mercury. Both of those games were decided by double figures in Minnesota’s favor. They will continue that trend with another impressive showing on Tuesday night.
Phoenix Mercury
The Phoenix Mercury are hoping that the second half of their season will go better than the first half did. Phoenix went 10-14 before the All-Star break, with team chemistry and coaching issues running rampant throughout the franchise. Here, Phoenix will look for a strong start to the second half of their season against a Lynx team that they have done poorly against this year so far.
Against the Lynx, the question for Phoenix is going to be how they compete on the glass. After buying Tina Charles out, the Mercury are lacking on the interior, with Brianna Turner being the only real option to compete against Sylvia Fowles. Any sort of foul trouble or poor performance from Turner will spell a long night for a Phoenix team that has shown precious few reasons for optimism this season.
Minnesota Lynx
The Minnesota Lynx have the second worst record in the WNBA at 8-15 going into the second half of the season. But they have to be encouraged with the way they played at the end of the first half of the year. Coming into the second half having won three of their last four games, the Lynx look like they are poised to make a run at a playoff spot down the stretch.
This game might be one of the bigger coaching mismatches in the league, as Cheryl Reeve is a vastly better leader than Vanessa Nygaard. Reeve has done a great job of navigating choppy waters early this season, while Nygaard has failed conclusively at calming the seas in Phoenix. Expect that mismatch to play a role if this game is close down the stretch.
