Fever vs Liberty Betting Pick
This game will be played at Barclays Center at 8:00 PM ET on Friday, May 13, 2022.
The New York Liberty and Indiana Fever both got off to up and down starts in the first week of the WNBA season. Both teams notched one impressive win each, but were also dealt double digit losses to remind them they still have some growing left to do. In this edition of our WNBA betting picks, we look at Fever vs Liberty, as both teams look for their second win of the young season.
Why Bet The Liberty:
✅ New York is coming off of one of the worst offensive performances imaginable against the Chicago Sky earlier this week. But they are a much better offensive team than they showed in that game, and should get back on track here with Betnijah Laney, Sabrina Ionescu, and Natasha Howard all on the floor together for just the second time in this young campaign.
✅ The Indiana Fever are coming off of a win over the Minnesota Lynx, their first win of the 2022 WNBA season. While a win over the Lynx sounds impressive, the Lynx have been horrible to start the season, and the Fever were beaten handily by the Mystics and Sparks in their other two games. The Fever will suffer another resounding defeat against a respectable opponent here.

✅ It is early in the year, but the Indiana Fever are 0-1 straight up and against the spread at home so far. The New York Liberty are 1-0 straight up and against the spread on their home floor. These are not large enough sample sizes to be predictive by any means, but both teams will continue on their early season trajectories in this department as the Liberty will cover the number as a home favorite.
Indiana Fever
The Indiana Fever have a win under their belt this season, beating the Minnesota Lynx at home in their last outing to improve to 1-2 on the year. They lost on the road to the undefeated Washington Mystics to start the season, and lost to the LA Sparks as well. But there is cause for some optimism in Indiana with this team, even if they may struggle on the road against the Liberty.
The combination of Kelsey Mitchell and Destanni Henderson has been a solid one in the backcourt for the Fever. And with NaLyssa Smith shooting over 40% and grabbing nine rebounds per game, Indiana has found a versatile player to help both inside and out on both ends. It may take some time for this Fever group to hit its stride fully, but this team is much better than it was last year.
New York Liberty
It has been an up and down start for the New York Liberty to say the least. After picking up a huge home win over the Connecticut Sun to start the season, the Liberty were held to 17 first half points in a blowout loss to the Chicago Sky. Here, the Liberty are simply looking to get back on track offensively against a very beatable Fever squad.
As the leader of this Liberty team, Sabrina Ionescu simply needs to be better for the Liberty. She is averaging under five assists per game through two games, despite all of the triple doubles she racked up as a star at Oregon during her collegiate career. The Liberty have plenty of nice pieces around Ionescu, who was very good against Connecticut in the season opener, but she needs to bring consistency that the rest of this squad can follow up with.
