- These teams have gone under the total in two of their three matchups against one another, with the lone exception coming on an over against a 160.5-point total early in the season.
- These teams have really struggled shooting the three against one another this year, going a combined 39/133 against each other for a mark of 29%.
- The Dream went under the total more than any team but the Washington Mystics this season, and they almost caught up to the Mystics despite Washington starting the season with nine straight unders.
The WNBA Playoffs have arrived, and eight teams are left with the chance to win a championship this year. Two of those teams are the Atlanta Dream and Dallas Wings, who finished in fourth and fifth place in the league’s regular season, and will battle it out in the best-of-three first round. Here, we make our WNBA predictions for Dream vs Wings Game 1 from Arlington.
Dream vs Wings Game 1 Betting Pick
Dream vs Wings Under 169.5 (-110)
Why Bet on the Under:
✅ Despite playing at two of the three fastest paces in the WNBA this season, the Dream and Wings have played some low-scoring games this season. They have gone under the total in two of their three games this year, with the exception being a game that barely got over a low total of 160.5 near the start of the season.
✅ The Dream are one of the most prolific under teams in the WNBA this season, going under the total in 23 of their 40 regular season games, the second-most unders in the league in 2023.
✅ These teams have been horrible shooting the basketball against one another this season. In three regular season meetings, we have seen them make just 39 of 133 three-point attempts against each other combined. That poor shooting will help us stay under the total in what should be a tense Game 1.
This game will be played at College Park Center at 9:30 PM ET on Friday, September 15, 2023.
Atlanta Dream
The Atlanta Dream took a nice step forward this season, finishing fifth in the WNBA standings at 19-21 for the year. Rhyne Howard continued to blossom into a franchise player for this team, whose physicality is underrated with bigs like Cheyenne Parker and Monique Billings. In this series, though, the Dream will need to find a way to make an impact against a Wings team that is much bigger and more physical.
For the Dream to compete in this series given the frontcourt of the Wings, outside shooting will be key. Unfortunately for the Dream, they have had their problems hitting outside shots against Dallas as well. In three games this season, the Dream have gone 19/68 from three-point range. If that number does not improve, the Dream could be in for an early exit this postseason.
Dallas Wings
The Dallas Wings finished fourth in the WNBA standings at 22-18 this season, giving them home-court advantage in this first-round series with the Atlanta Dream. The Wings clearly established themselves as the best team outside of the Aces/Liberty/Sun trio in the league this year, with their bigs making it very difficult for the rest of the league to defend them. Here, the Wings will look to avoid an upset in the first game of this series at home, and to give themselves two chances to advance to the second round.
Arike Ogunbowale is always a key to the Wings’ success, but that will be especially true in the postseason. Ogunbowale is a streaky shooter, who is capable of going for 30 on any night, or struggling to reach 15 points on a bad night. She is coming off of a 32-point game against the Dream in the final game of the regular season, but she has to be efficient to avoid this game getting closer than the Wings would like it to be.
