This game will be played at Barclays Center at 9:30 PM ET on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.
Why Bet On Virginia:
✅ Louisville had been struggling mightily before winning against a subpar Georgia Tech squad in the first round of the ACC tournament. Their final regular season game, in fact, was a double-digit loss at home against this same Virginia team. Expect the Cavaliers to be dominant here again when they face the Cardinals at Barclays Center.
✅ This is not a good matchup for Louisville all around, as the defense of Virginia poses problems for the Cardinals. Louisville does not have a double figure scorer on their roster this season, which is a problem when taking on a defense-first team like the Cavaliers. Expect the Cavaliers to hold Louisville to around the same 61-point number they did just last week en route to a win and a cover.

✅ Toward the end of the regular season, Virginia had been playing the elite teams in the ACC very closely, even in defeat. They lost to Duke by four points and Florida State by one point during the final few games of their regular season. Playing some of their best basketball, Virginia should be able to solve the Cardinals to set up another matchup with an elite team.
Louisville Cardinals
The Louisville Cardinals limped into the ACC tournament, having lost four straight games and 11 out of their last 12 heading into postseason play. But the Cardinals found a way to pick up a win in the first round against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, beating them by 10 points to make it to the second day of the tournament. The question now is whether they can sustain their level of play from Tuesday to knock off the Virginia Cavaliers.
If the Cardinals are going to beat Virginia, they are going to need to find more offense than they did in previous matchups with Tony Bennett’s team. In two double-digit losses to Virginia this season, the Cardinals have averaged 56.5 points per game, which is not enough to win even against the methodical style of the Cavaliers.
Virginia Cavaliers
The Virginia Cavaliers will open their ACC tournament against Louisville on Wednesday night, playing some of their best basketball late in the season. Even in recent defeats against the likes of Duke and Florida State, the Cavaliers have been locked in on both ends of the floor and have put a scare into those elite programs. Now the Cavaliers will look to pick up a third win over Louisville in as many tries on the season.
For Virginia to get the job done in this game, they will need to continue to play stellar defense against the Cardinals. In both games this season against Louisville, Virginia held the Cardinals to under 35% from three-point range, not allowing them to get back into the game with long-range buckets. If they can do that again in Brooklyn, they should be able to advance to the quarterfinals.
