Two games in the WNBA tonight and we’ll take a look at the late game, as the Dallas Wings visit the Phoenix Mercury.
Dallas at Phoenix Betting Odds
The Mercury opened 4.5 and the game quickly was bet down to Mercury -1.5. The total has dropped from 168.5 down to 166. The Mercury are -125 on the moneyline.
Dallas Wings
Dallas is 3-5 on the season and one thing they’ve been able to do is play the defending league champions tough, going to overtime twice against them and winning the last game on the road 68-67. It wasn’t so much of a great defensive effort by the Wings, but more of a combination between better defense and a poor shooting game by the Storm
The Wings have some decent players and have Allisha Gray back after she missed a few games for a tournament. The team shot just 35.7% in the win at Seattle, but did help themselves with nine offensive rebounds and were 13 of 13 from the foul line, which turned out to be the difference in the game.
Phoenix Mercury
The Marcury are 5-3 and have won three in a row after a bit of a slow start and will be without Diana Turasi a bit longer. Not sure if somebody else is injured for this one, as I didn’t expect to see the line movement we did in this one. Phoenix does have a capable backup to Turasi in Skylar Diggins-Smith and she’s been a big part of the team’s winning streak.
The Mercury also have a strong inside presence with Brittney Griner, but they have to get more from their bench, which was held scoreless in the June 3 win over Chicago, going a combined 0 for 9 from the floor. They combined for just 6 points in the road win at Chicago a few days earlier.
Dallas at Phoenix Pick
My numbers have the Mercury winning 91-83, so will go ahead and take a shot on the over here. Not going to read too much into Dallas’ defensive win over Seattle, as I think the Wings still would rather get out and run. Losing Turasi hurts, but as long as Diggins-Smith continues her play, the Mercury can weather the storm until they get their leader back. Griner should have a big game against the post players of the Wings.
