Wednesday’s featured NHL betting pick at ATS comes out of sunny California where the Anaheim Ducks will play host to the Minnesota Wild in a Western Conference matchup. The Wild hope to take advantage of a Ducks team playing on the second night of a back to back heading into this Ducks vs Wild contest, having lost 4-1 to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday night just down the highway in LA.
The 18-11-2 Wild are heavy favorites against the lowly 9-21-3 Ducks in this one. NHL betting odds list the Wild as -310 favorites and even the puck line is a chalk play at -120 odds for the -1.5. Bettors brave enough to back a Ducks win can get +250 odds on the moneyline and the total is set at 6.0 goals.

Why Bet the Wild:
✅ Minnesota are on a five game winning streak at the moment, their last loss coming back on December 9 as the Wild haven’t lost in nearly two weeks.
✅ The Wild have covered the -1.5 puck line in three straight games and in four of the five games on this current win streak.
✅ Not only have the Ducks won just nine games to date this season, they have been terrible as a puck line bet as well. The Ducks are 13-20 against the spread entering Wednesday’s meeting with the Wild.

Minnesota Wild
After winning all four games in their most recent homestand in Minnesota, the Wild head back to California before Christmas to try to extend their winning streak against two struggling teams in the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks in a back to back. First up are the Ducks, who the Wild have already beat this month in a 6-5 shootout win. Now, the Wild will look to win a second game in December against the Ducks with a win on the road after their high scoring win at home on December 3.
Kirill Kaprizov has been one of the key figures in the Wild’s season to date, leading the way in terms of scoring production. Kaprizov has 19 goals and 42 points for the Wild this season. Mats Zuccarello is also currently enjoying a bit of a hot streak, scoring seven goals and registering 16 points in the last ten games for the Wild.
Minnesota’s road record has been solid this season, with the Wild winning seven games so far in enemy territory. Holding a 7-5-1 record in their 13 road games to date.
Anaheim Ducks
The lengthy rebuild and transparent tank for a high draft pick is in full effect in Anaheim as the Ducks are losing nearly every night. However, the past week has been the best week of the season for the team as they earned wins over Edmonton and Montreal before falling to the Kings on Tuesday night to snap a rare winning streak for one of the worst teams in hockey.
It looked as if the Ducks found their scoring touch momentarily in the wins over Edmonton and Montreal, scoring nine goals across the two games. However, they went right back to struggling to find the back of the net against the Kings and only scored once in the loss. Anaheim’s two other most recent defeats were shutout losses to Ottawa and Toronto, making scoring just as big of an issue as their weak defense.
Anaheim has the worst defense in hockey, giving up a dreadful 4.2 points per game. Discipline has also been an issue for them as they serve 12.3 penalty minutes per game, most in the league. With a bad defense, bad penalty kill and poor discipline, it is no wonder the Ducks are amongst the worst teams in the league.
