Losing Zion Williamson to a hamstring injury has sent the New Orleans Pelicans season into a tailspin. Their eight game losing streak had them just one game above .500 and sinking fast in the Western Conference standings.
If missing Zion wasn’t bad enough, Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum have been out of the lineup of late. Both are listed as probable as of Tuesday morning but the Pelicans starting lineup is usually missing at least two of their typical contributors most nights and that has been a major issue. New Orleans’ best in the league perimeter defense will be tested by the best three point shooting team in the league in Denver. The Pelicans rank first in opponent 3PT percentage allowing 34.2% while the Nuggets shoot at a 39.6% clip from behind the arc. New Orleans will also need to shoot the three pointer a lot better than in their previous meeting as they shot a dismal 19% last week against the Nuggets.

The best team in the West has struggled this week with the Denver Nuggets losing their last two games. After sitting both Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray against the Milwaukee Bucks, a poor second half from a team that was supposed to be well rested cost them against the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Nuggets gave up 68 points in the second half to throw away a first half performance where they put up 73 points of their own to lead 73-58 after two quarters. Joel Embiid had 47 points as Jokic’s MVP résumé took a hit in the battle of the best big men in the world.
Denver will hope to score closer to their average against New Orleans after struggling in their January 24 matchup. The Nuggets failed to break 100 points in the close win, an anomaly for a team that ranks second in field goal percentage at 50.8% and tops the league in three point percentage as well.
