The 2021 NBA Western Conference Finals start Sunday, June 20, so here’s the best Clippers vs. Suns betting pick, as the No. 2 Phoenix host the No. 4 Los Angeles at Phoenix Suns Arena with the tip-off at 3:30 PM ET.
The Suns open as 5-point favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Clippers are +175 moneyline dogs with a total of 221.5 points. LA went 2-1 straight up and ATS against Phoenix this past regular season, and the Clippers have won 16 of their last 20 encounters with the Suns while covering 14 times in the process.
The Clippers finally made it to the finals
The Los Angeles Clippers have reached the Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history, overcoming a 2-0 deficit in each of their previous two series against the No. 5 Dallas Mavericks and No. 1 Utah Jazz.
LA wrapped up the second-round series with an impressive comeback against the Jazz in Game 6 this past Friday. The Clippers trailed by 22 points at halftime and still won comfortably, 131-119, upsetting the odds as 3-point home dogs.
Terence Mann went bonkers last Friday, dropping 39 points on Utah to make it up for Kawhi Leonard’s absence. Mann shot 15-for-21 from the field and 7-for-10 from deep, while Paul George accounted for 28 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.
Reggie Jackson had another big game, finishing with 27 points and 10 assists, and he’s averaged 16.6 points a night this postseason. Kawhi (knee) will probably remain on the shelf Sunday so the Clippers need more of the same from PG-13, Jackson, and Mann.
LA is tallying 115.2 points per game this postseason, shooting 49.4% from the field and 40.1% from downtown. The Clippers are yielding 108.5 points in a return on a 45.7% shooting from the field and 40.3% from deep.
The Suns needed just ten games to get through the first two rounds
The Phoenix Suns are rolling on a seven-game winning streak after sweeping the No. 3 Denver Nuggets in the conference semifinals. They’ve dominated the reigning MVP and his teammates, scoring 121.5 points a night and surrendering 105.8 in a return.
Chris Paul led the way against the Nuggets, averaging 25.5 points and 10.3 assists per game. The 11-time All-Star dropped 37 points on Denver in Game 4, but he’ll miss the opening clash against the Clippers due to the COVID-19.
The Suns will have to lean Devin Booker, who’s been terrific in his first playoff appearance. Booker is tallying 27.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game while shooting 48.7% from the field. Phoenix will continue to rely on its stout defense, too. The Suns have yielded only 100.8 points per game through their ten outings this postseason.
On the other side of the ball, the Suns have scored 111.0 points per game on a 48.2% shooting from the field and 38.4% from beyond the 3-point line.
- 4-1-1 ATS in the last six games on the road
- 5-14 ATS in the last 19 games against the Clippers
Los Angeles Clippers vs. Phoenix Suns Pick:
Both teams will be shorthanded, and I think the Clippers have to take advantage of Chris Paul’s absence. With five points on the table, I’m backing the underdogs, as LA’s defense will focus on Devin Booker.
Simply put, I think the Suns will miss Paul more than the Clippers will miss Kawhi. Anyway, we should see a tight contest. All three regular-season encounters between the Suns and Clippers were decided by ten or fewer points, and the Clippers won one of two games in Arizona while losing the other one by five points.
NBA Free Pick: Take Los Angeles Clippers +5.0 at -110
Los Angeles Clippers vs. Phoenix Suns Total Pick:
My best Clippers vs. Suns betting pick is the under on the totals, as neither of their three regular-season duels produced more than 219 points in total. Furthermore, Kawhi and Paul’s absence will affect the teams’ offense, while both LA and Phoenix prefer to play at a slow pace.
The Clippers are recording only 92.6 possessions per 48 minutes. On the other side, the Suns are averaging 95.6, so give me the under on the totals.
Pick: Go under 221.5 points at -110
