The Dallas Mavericks pulled off an upset this past Wednesday, outlasting the Los Angeles Clippers 127-114 as 6-point underdogs to tie their Western Conference first-round series at 1-1. Luka Doncic was unstoppable once again, and the Mavs snapped a five-game skid against the Clippers.
Game 3 between the second-seeded Clippers and seventh-seeded Mavericks is set for Friday night at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida. We bring you all need-to-know betting tips and trends along with our best betting pick.
The Mavericks miss four players since the restart, but all their key guys are ready to go. The Clippers, on the other side, are coming in full strength, but Patrick Beverley (calf) is listed as questionable.
The Clippers are 4.5-point favorites on BetAmerica. They are set at -200 moneyline odds on the same platform, while the Mavericks are listed as +175 moneyline dogs. The total has been set at 232.0 points on Sugarhouse.
What’s at Stake?
With the series tied at 1-1, both teams have a chance to put themselves in a strong position. Anyway, this could easily be a long series, and I’m looking for at least six games.
The Clippers beat the Mavs 118-110 as 6.5-point favorites in the opener, but they failed to keep the momentum on their side. The Mavs could have a psychological advantage after the thrashing of the Clippers in Game 2.
Luka Doncic dropped 42 points on the Clippers in Game 1, but the Mavs still suffered a loss. The reigning rookie of the year accounted for 28 points, eight boards, and seven assists in Game 2, but the key factor was Dallas’ second unit that added 47 points and completely dominated the Clippers’ bench.
I thought depth would be LA’s advantage in this matchup, but the Mavs’ role players are doing a great job.
The Mavericks shot 50.0% from the field Wednesday night. They made 13 triples out of 29 attempts from deep, while the Clippers shot only 10-for-34 from beyond the 3-point line. Los Angeles handed out just 16 dimes, but that has a lot to do with their poor shooting.
Kawhi Leonard led the way for the Clippers in Game 2, posting a double-double of 35 points and 10 rebounds. Lou Williams added 23 points and seven assists off the bench, but Paul George was a disaster. The six-time All-Star shot only 4-for-17 from the field in 32 minutes on the floor.
The Clippers need to improve on both sides of the ball. Also, they have to keep their eyeball on a few players and not only on Luka Doncic. Los Angeles is 5-1 SU and ATS in its last six meetings with Dallas, so the Clippers should know how to deal with the Mavericks.
The Mavs are not joking, and it seems they believe they can eliminate the Clippers. I think the Clippers are a better team in this series, especially on the defensive end, but I’m still backing the Mavericks to keep it close in Game 3.
However, I don’t feel comfortable with a 4.5-point spread. Therefore, I suggest you take the Mavericks as 6.5-point underdogs at -160 odds on BetAmerica. Another interesting wager is any team to win by six or fewer points.
When it comes to the totals, I predicted the over in Game 2, and Friday’s clash should be another high-scoring affair. Still, I would stick the spread because the Clippers haven’t shown their full defensive potential yet.
