Houston Rockets Betting Preview
The Houston Rockets were once again among the worst teams in the NBA last season, winning just 22 of their 82 games. That prompted some major roster changes this offseason, as the Rockets are finally attempting to resemble a serious professional basketball team this year. The question is whether or not that decision will work out, as there are still plenty of questions about whether the new-look Rockets roster can compete at a high level.

Houston Rockets Picks, Predictions & Betting News
Offseason Transactions
Key Additions: Fred VanVleet, Dillon Brooks, Jock Landale, Reggie Bullock, Amen Thompson, Victor Oladipo, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl
Key Departures: Kevin Porter Jr., Usman Garuba, KJ Martin
The Houston Rockets made a ton of moves this offseason, which will undoubtedly make them better than they were last season. Fred VanVleet is being given a chance to run this team as its best player, and he at least provides a steady hand at point guard for a roster that has lacked that in recent years. Meanwhile, Dillon Brooks and Reggie Bullock are pests defensively, who can occasionally offer a spark on offense.
From a departures standpoint, getting rid of Kevin Porter Jr. is a good decision given all of his off-court issues over the last few years. Ditching a couple of young talents in Usman Garuba and KJ Martin could become a regret if either turns into a high-level player, but the Rockets ultimately improved in the offseason.
Positives & Negatives
On the positive side for the Rockets, they finally have some veteran talent to rely on. Players like VanVleet, Brooks, and Bullock will at least prevent this team from being a total joke. And adding a player like Jock Landale will provide them with some much-needed depth at the center spot behind Alpereen Sengun.
However, the Rockets still might lack the offensive firepower needed to win games in the NBA today. VanVleet, Brooks, and Bullock are all such streaky offensive players, and the average offensive output for this team could be poor even if those players have the potential to step up and hit big shots once in a while.
2023-24 Houston Rockets Win Total Prediction: Under 31.5 Wins
While the Rockets should win more than the 22 games they won last season, this roster is still not one that is going to compete with the star-studded teams in the NBA. VanVleet and Brooks is not a duo that is anywhere near as good as the money they have commanded from the Rockets. As a result, we will take the under for Houston and expect them to win close to 30 games.
