Phil Hawes vs Roman Dolidze Fight Odds
Phil Hawes -175 vs Roman Dolidze
Fight is at 185 lbs and is -120 to end inside the distance.
Phil Hawes got back on track with a dominant win over Deron Winn in his most recent fight, although, Winn has been far from impressive in the UFC. That was on the heels of a KO loss to Chris Curtis. Hawes has some dynamite in his hands if he lands clean. He is not the most impressive striker, but he does have power.
Hawes is a high quality wrestler as well, but his BJJ game is something of a question mark. His gas tank will be quite a question mark, particularly if this is a clinch and grappling heavy fight. Hawes is a fighter whose skill set will make him look amazing against lower level opponents but quite limited as he moves up the ranks. It is possible to likely he is moving a notch up the ladder that moves him into the class of competition that gives him problems in this matchup.

Roman Dolidze is a fighter flying somewhat under the radar that has an attainable ceiling in MMA. He is 4-1 in the UFC and 10-1 overall. I feel he is a fighter that is not getting the respect he deserves when he is this level underdog to Phil Hawes. Dolidze is extremely strong and powerful at 185 lbs with a very well rounded skill set. His KO finish of Kyle Daukaus was extremely impressive, as Daukaus had previously never been finished. Dolidze is putting it together and that is a scary thing for opponents. His striking brings real fight ending pop. Dolidze’s strength lets him work in the clinch and with takedowns to wear on his opponents. His submission game is quite strong, particularly with leg attacks. He can use those to reverse position on the floor. He is also quite durable, as he has never been finished. The Dolidze skill set is one that counteracts the Hawes strengths at every turn.
We have already seen Hawes finished as a significant favorite in the UFC and this is another spot that sets up well for that outcome. Dolidze has the durability to whether the early storm. He has power to hurt and finish Hawes in his own right. Dolidze also has the superior grappling game that will threaten submissions and sweeps should Hawes use his own wrestling. He also has the superior gas tank should this fight go late. It certainly has the potential to have a grueling pace, which does not set up well for Hawes. I like the Dolidze +155 flat line. The thing is, I like the Dolidze ITD line of +330 even more. He has paths to early KO, late KO and submission win throughout. Take the large plus figure here.
Betting Pick: Dolidze ITD +330
