Michal Oleksiejczuk vs Cody Brundage Fight Preview
Michal Oleksiejcuk brings a truly sharp striking skill set to the cage, that is very heavy on boxing. He is truly masterful at working both the body and head of his opponents, and it paid dividends for him at the light heavyweight level. Now that it seems he has made the correct and permanent move down to middleweight, the expectation should be for even more success.
Oleksiejcuk had eight fights at light heavyweight in the UFC. He was certainly undersized and gave up some real real strength difference at the weight class, but still managed to go 5-3 with three KO wins. Those wins were all attributed to his boxing. When he lost, it was generally because he ran into a bigger, stronger fighter with better grappling chops. In the middleweight debut, he still had plenty of pop, scoring a pair of knockdowns and a finish inside two minutes. He will have a significant striking advantage again in this spot, and another knock out should fully be the expectation.
Cody Brundage enters his fifth fight under the UFC banner, going 2-2. He has won the most recent two, and now gets a step up in competition that is going to put him back in the loss column. Brundage brings something of a rounded skill set, but does lack real differentiating qualities. He is a vanilla striker that lacks power, despite scoring a knock out in his last fight. This will be the largest area of disadvantage Brundage will face in this fight.
Where Brundage may have an advantage is as a grappler, but it is the wrestling that likely gives him an issue. Brundage will almost assuredly try to take Oleksiejczuk in this fight. Despite that, it is highly questionable how much success he will have. The anti-wrestling game of Oleksiejczuk should prove quite stout at 185, and he will punish Brundage for bad entries. All signs point to another knock out for Oleksiejcuk. That KO could very well come via the body shot variety, which we all love.
