Angels vs Astros Betting Pick
This game will be played at Minute Maid Park at 4:10 PM ET on Saturday, July 2, 2022.
Why Bet The Astros:
✅ Patrick Sandoval will get the nod for the Angels, and the 25-year-old left-hander is 3-2 with a sharp 2.63 ERA in 12 starts (65 innings pitched) this season. However, Sandoval has gone 0-1 with a 4.01 ERA and 4.23 FIP over his previous five starts, and the Angels have won just one game in that span. Patrick ranks in the 45th percentile in both expected batting average and xwOBA.
✅ Jose Urquidy will get the starting call for the Astros, and the 27-year-old righty carries a 6-3 record, 4.36 ERA, and 1.37 WHIP (74.1 IP, 14 starts). Urquidy has been terrific in his last two appearances, allowing just a couple of runs across 13 frames of work against the Yankees and Mets. Jose leans heavily on his four-seamer, which holds a solid minus-3 run value.

✅ Over the last couple of weeks, the Astros have homered 23 times in 12 games and 389 at-bats while slashing .237/.322/.455. On the other side, the Angels have 16 dingers and a poor .226/.291/.397 slash line in their last 13 outings and 433 at-bats.
Los Angeles Angels
The Angels beat the Chicago White Sox 4-1 last Wednesday to clinch a three-game home series and wrap up their nine-game homestand with a 4-5 record. They also improved their record to 37-41 for the season, trailing the bottom wild card in the American League by four and a half games.
Last Saturday, Patrick Sandoval tossed five innings of a one-run ball in a no-decision against the Seattle Mariners. He scattered eight hits and issued a pair of walks while punching out six. The Halos’ bullpen has an underwhelming 4.63 ERA and .351 BABIP over the last ten days and 35 frames of work.
Houston Astros
The Astros barely outlasted the New York Yankees 2-1 on Thursday night to improve to 48-27 on the season. It was their third win in a row and 11th in the Astros’ last 14 games overall.
Houston’s bullpen hasn’t impressed in the last ten days and 22 innings of work, tallying a 4.09 ERA and 5.09 FIP. The Astros’ relievers have also recorded a poor 6.55 BB/9 and 1.64 HR/9 in that stretch.
